Same here. Get it show ready the day before and quick once over when i get there. Most shows i go to to are within 50 miles though.

Have been to shows 150 miles away and your right in thinking you car will be filthy when you get there. Good wash with the bucket will be needed. Its a right ball ache without a hose or tap thats near.

i allways give it a good clean the day before, think i will just take all my cleaning stuff with me then and a wet chamois and clean what needs cleaning when i get there. didnt know you could get water from the site, will have to ask when i get there then. just seems like its gunna be hard work cleaning just bits of it and not the full car! :punish:

Water is available on most sites. However its usually a long way from your car or a least it always is for me. I did a show at brigton race course. The tap was 150m away and i only had one bucket. There was also a que for the tap with others doing the same.

As long as its got a good coat of polish/wax you should just be able to remove the odd fly quite easy. If needed a bucket of water and a good leather is also no prob if there's enough good quality polish on it.

Clare can take 2 hour sometime to clean BigCab, hopefully getting rid of the chromes should half that time. They were a bastard. lol.

I know where you are coming from as most shows for me are 2-3 hours drive away. I leave for most shows before 6am (4.30am for Ford Fair) and I can get all manner of rubbish on the car, from early morning dirt to flies and small roadkill.

All I do is give the car a good wax a few times through the year and clean it the day before. If the wax is good enough, then most of the dirt will simply come off with tap water.

Once at the show, I have a small collapsible bucket which I fill with tap water and, using a washmitt, just lightly flow the water over the bodywork and wheels then use a drying towel to dry off. Once dried, a quick once-over with Megs original QuikDetailer to remove any watermarks and I am ready to go.

Once back home, the next day it gets the same treatment and put away again.

On your wheels, use a brake dust barrier (I use TurtleWax Brake Dust Barrier from Halfords) when cleaning as it helps prevent the dust building up in the first place. Some people use a wax, depends on how the car is kept and the wheels cleaned. I always take mine off to clean them, so a spray-on application is better for me.

never heard of TurtleWax Brake Dust Barrier, i will have to look into that, sounds like good stuff, i need to take my wheels off to clean them aswell as you can see through the spokes and see all the dirt behind lol, looks bad

Hi stuart,

Normally at the shows we all get our cleaning and waxing stuff out and set about washing and waxing the cabbies.....Skippy always seems to be dirtiest as he probably travels the biggest distance invariably so I always have to wash him and clean him up from scratch especially if its rained on the way there! ha!

All the show sites have water and its nice to clean them while we wait for the kettle to boil for a nice cuppa! ha! And Feeble and Diggy are right that i normally helps others clean their cabbies as well! ha!

Thats part of the fun is getting there and cleaning them up and making them all shiny again! ha!

Its great fun.

Thanks

Avril
