  20. Can a knowledgable person help with this one? My 1997 mk 6 1.8 ghia cab does not want to restart in this hot weather. It starts first time from cold but will only fire and then cut out straightaway if the engine is hot and the air temp 75+ degrees(about 24degrees celcius). It did this last year in a hot spell. When the key is turned to position 2 the lights on the instrument panel come on but I do not hear the momentary whirring and click that you get when cold. So, is it a relay and if so which one. I recall thAt I had this years ago on a Rober 216 but cannot remember how we fixed it. Any help would be much appreciated as I am worried about the car packing up somewhere such as a junction. Thanks, Ghiaman.

    *SOLD* 1991 Mk5 cabby, 1.6EFi

    This advert is COMPLETED!

    • For Sale
    • Used

Now sold to a nice fella off facebook (it's useful for something lol). Hi all, just went to log in and it seems my account was deleted for some reason (I know I haven't logged in for a good while, but not sure why it would be deleted!?) Anyway, to reintroduce, we're Dan and Emma (formerly known as 'username'... Imaginative, huh?) and our cabby is a Mk5 registered on the 19th January 1991, it's a 1.6EFi in Bardolino Red and we're the second owners, it having stood for nearly 10 years after the original owner stopped using it because the clutch was slipping. We bought the car in early 2016 and recommissioned it for summer that year, amongst other things it had new rear wheel cylinders & shoes, clutch, new roof skin, head refresh with new stem seals & all fluids/filters changed. During the next 12 months we put about 4400 miles on it, taking it to 106k in total. It failed it's next MoT in April last year, only a minor patch needed on the offside chassis leg and a bolt I had left loose while changing a CV boot. I decided I wanted to do the job properly, sort any other bits of crusty metal underneath and re-underseal the lot as well as attending to a couple of non-structural holes in the body (front wing bottoms and round the fuel filler), as well as getting a blow-over respray in the original colour as there were some stone chips on the bonnet and lacquer peel on the right quarter panel and mirror tops. The rest, as they say, is history. Life got in the way and I've really been too busy to do anything with the car so it's sat on the driveway patiently but realistically it's going to be a long time before I can do anything with the car and it deserves better than to stand and fester another 10 years so I've decided to put a tentative ad on here to see if anyone wants to rescue the car. For MoT I would imagine it'd need the aforementioned welding to the chassis leg (although if time allows I may well attend to this, seeing as welding is a scare-off for some people), likely 4 tyres as they're just very old and wiper blades. Other than that though I think it should pass. Cosmetically the bodywork looks rough, with one wing bottom still to be replaced (I do have the piece cut from a rot-free wing though) and the fuel filler area to be patched up. There's lacquer peel on the right quarter panel and both mirror tops and I feel the best way forward would be a respray for it to look it's best again. Interior-wise is not too bad, rear "door card" panels have started to peel in the way that they do but apart from that and a good clean the interior is in good shape, the original stereo and amplifier work and the clock is not broken etc. The electric roof works well and the skin is nice and supple, being under 2 years old. The sealing strips over the rear side windows however are not in great shape but do the job still. All the electric windows work although they'd benefit from a lube again after standing. Mechanically the car is good for the foreseeable and there's a full set of alloys (including the spare). As the car came from it's first owner, we also have all the original handbooks and service history when it was in use, 3 keys plus the original spare, even some unused Keycode window stickers and dealership tag that hung from the mirror. I think there may even be the original bill of sale in there! Aside from catching the rust before it turns into a real problem & attending to the paintwork though, I'd say it's a good candidate for keeping as an example of a factory original car. With so many of these being modified beyond recognition, I think the only real "mod" on this one is that the exhaust has had a box deleted so it sounds nicer. Well I'm sure I've written enough to put most people off lol but if you have any questions or want to come see the car give us a call or text on 07716 786 207. I'll happily fire her up and go up & down the drive but obviously can't take on the road yet. Cheers, Dan. P.S. I'll add more photos when I get them on the laptop. Looking for offers over £250 since that's what we paid for the car and we've put plenty of money into the mechanicals and roof so I feel that's fair.

    £250.00
