My New Cabriolet

Dear all,

Well being relatively new to the club, but having read a number of postings and being a former owner of a couple of Cabriolets from the Blue Oval stable as well as others, I thought it was about time that I dipped my toe in again and found another.

Below is the car that I got as a result of loads of conversations with Avril by text and phone and quite a number of fibs . . . but all in the name of fun and intrigue.

The Mk III is a 1984 example and for the moment is fine, but there are big plans including a new interior, engine (not sure which to go for as I have been told that there are a few options) and colour scheme.

  • Postings on Cosworth engines have me intrigued, but I guess that is a lot of work as well as money;
  • My aim was always to go down the RS Turbo route, but I have been told a MK V engine and components fit relatively easily. Any thoughts?
  • What are the issues with fitting say an ST engine out of the Focus or Mondeo?
As the old saying goes - watch this space!!

Cab looks sweet mate.

My personal choice of engine would be the RST in that car, but I'm old and like the CVH.

The 2000cc Zetec would also be a good choice.

The ST has been done but looked a lot of work and effort.

Did I say the cab looks sweet.

Thanks everyone and especially Avril!!:biggrin:

At the moment the car is sitting outside my friend's house, as I am trying to organise a garage near to where I live to store it and then start breaking it down.

I was going to go the RST route, as I have always liked them and did the conversion on an escort van and combi van back in the day - both of which put huge smiles on your face :banana_dance: . However I hae been offered a Mk V RS 2000 with full engine, suspension, breaks, wiring etc and have been told that it all fits within reason which is why I was wondering what else can easily be done.

I will post photos and will bug you all for assistance .

Thanks,

John

from what i have researched if fitting a rs2000 engine i believe this to be a 2lt zetec engine...

1.8 oil pump / sump /water pump

modified engine mount and then get a s2 clutch and flywheel and use a series 1/2 rst gearbox

then obviously the wiring loom and ecu ect

That is what I had heard as well. I am going down to my friend on the weekend, so will touch base as well. I am not sure what condition the car is in but apparently the engine, loom etc, etc are all in good nick - which is good news. Thanks for your advice and please feel free to throw in any other gems. All opinions welcome!!

Hi John,

I just spotted your post on the cabby. So glad your happy with him, I was a bit worried as you hadn't seen the cabby for yourself, but your mate was adamant that you would like it! So really glad you did! ha!

Looks really good in your piccy above, and will be good to see updates as you start doing stuff on him. I'll let Lee know how your getting on with it. Lee's got his back from being resprayed, and as you know that was in the same Imperial Blue, it is a lovely colour. He's planning on doing cream interior with blue piping so I shall take piccies as his progresses as well......they could look like twins! ha!

Speak soon, take care

Avril
