I bought this escort about 5 years ago with the intention of fitting an illusion kit and fitting a rs turbo engine . Then money ran out after i lost my job and it got stuck to the back of the garage for 3 and half years . I decided to dig it out a few weeks ago fit the engine and get it up and running . Well got her all running mot'ed and taxed . Managed to get just over a weeks fun out of her before the engine picked up on cylinder 3 =( . so while she is back in this time i am stripping her right back for a respray and a engine rebuild .

How she looked when i dragged her out from the back of the garage

How she stands now . Havnt decided as to what colour to paint her yet . I want to paint her imperial blue while the wife wants me to paint it in the bright green focus rs colour .

The shell itself is in very good condition needing no welding to fuse box or battery tray and only 2 tiny patches to the rear of the sills . So then plan is to fettle and make a few changes to the bodykit and see where we go from there .....

Thanks for the comments guys . Its been nice to be able to make some progress . When the kit was fitted years ago it was done on a really tight budget and the paint and bodywork reflected that . So most of the week has been spent getting the rear arches absolutely perfect ( thank god for long bed sander ). Another thing that has been bugging me is the n/s/f wing was mounted slightly out of square only a few mm but my god it looked awful . So off it came , which was a nervous time with it being fibre-glass . On the engine front the cylinder bore on no 3 is heavily scored =( have not decided what path to take yet ( if anyone has got a short engine lying about lol ) . I think i will cross that bridge when the bodywork is complete . My apologies for the quality of the pictures they are from my phone i need to buy a decent camera .

Evening all , its been a while since i last made a post . A lot has happened over the last year or so including a change of premises . A bigger workshop 30 mile down the road . Very little has been done on the cabby , she ended up getting dragged about and tucked away again . Interest was lost for a while when i managed to get an alpina B3 dirt cheap . Entertaining enough . Also with the few restoration jobs we always seem to have in ( please stop bringing us rotten old mgs and triumphs ) , we have had little time to play with projects .

A couple week ago i dragged the old girl out again . Time to try pick up where i left off . Firstly the engine , oh what to do . I decided i wanted to go with more modern running gear , Originallly the idea was to go with a zetec 1.8 or 2.0 I even bought a 92 xr2i to butcher , but i couldnt bring myself to do it as it was in too nice condition ( xr2i for sale now if anyone interested ) . Now we have been collecting 1.7 vct sigma engines for a bit and have half a dozen lieing around the place . These engines are popular with a couple of our customers who have kit cars . So the next time we managed to get a accident damaged puma ( 175 quid bargain ) the gearbox , hydraulic clutch etc was removed and put on one side for use in the escort .

I selected a low milage engine to start with 47k . Put that on one side and used a knackered one for mocking up in the escort .

I was going to post some pictures but for some reason its not letting me upload any ..
