Guest gavintwopies
Well after i nearly ended up bald with all the stress involed with trying to do up a mk5 escort cabby, with the whole intention of getting a road legal cabriolet on the road with power steering and have it pink for under £600!!! I ended up with a efi cvh mk5 finally on carb to get it running and best part of my scalp drawing blood from all the hair yanking!!! and still not finished almost 4 months on. So i sold it on e-bay for £150 and put £200 into this little beauty...... Bought as a mk3 cabriolet where someone somewhere down the line had fitted a full mk4 front-end down to the cradle aswell!! fitted with a xr3i engine and loom but as a non-runner with crap theft damage i set about it asap. as a friend owns a mk4 breakers i should have done this 1st time round, but as her indoors was convinced she needed power steering as everything she has driven recently has had she felt she needed it!!!! then after 4 months of tourcher she dropped the bomb shell that power steering did not matter.......... Guest gavintwopies
So this is how it stood when i 1st seen it at my mates escort breakers. Then after sculking around his yard for 4x steels to get it mobile enough to pull it onto his recovery truck i got it deliverd to my house. Guest gavintwopies
Well as it goes after looking into the non-runner bit it appears that most of the non-runner bit came down to the damage that the 1/2 witted crap-as-you-like car thief attempt that was thrust upon the car so a new igniton barrel housing and ignition wiring along with 30mins of soldering sorted this part of it. only to find that the car had been parked up for alomst 5 years!!!! this lead to the fuel-pump being seized and a few blows with a copper mallet direct on the pump seemed to do the trick. Guest gavintwopies
well after now getting the car to the stage of getting it started it turns out the fuel had vapped off as it never had a fuel cap fitted for several years so i had to invested a couple of quid into it and got a new cap via be-gay for the grand sum of £5 deliverd new old stock. £5 of fuel later it starts and runs all be it i think either the cold start injector is not working or the fact that it has no water in is effecting the engine coolant temp sensor and the injector is not putting fuel in. Guest gavintwopies
Since the last post i have managed to secure my self a 2.0 zetec bottomend for nowt so after twisting the arm of the laser machine operator at work, i give him a cad drawing of a zvh adaptor plate and got a few made, since then i have managed to convert the bottomend to a zvh while also purchasing a 1.3 cvh timing belt tensioner to finish off the conversion. still dont know if its going into the cabriolet or if i will build it up and fit it into my 1.4L mk4 and fit cbr900 bike carbs to it? Guest gavintwopies
Well after a few cans of bevvy and a bit of poking about e-bay i got a set of 17" alloys with good tires off a ford minus the spigot rings for £99 so a baragin to be had then went out and bought a roof cover for £15 locally, then after this lot was fitted i found it was hard to shift the smug git out of the drivers seat... So next stage is to start looking to fit the fibre glass series 1 kit along with the mk4 xr3i front bumper with rs1600i fibre glass bonded front splitter. Guest gavintwopies
Well after playing about with random tune up idea's while trying to keep the car as girly as possible i thought about drilled or grooved discs when after pondering over how performance discs could be girly i came up with the idea if machining them with playboy logo's on..... Nowt more girly that a set of bunnies helping remove the glaze off the pads? so 30mins of cad-cam and 1 night shift night later i now have what was muling around in the depth's of a deranged brain... Guest gavintwopies
Well after having to swap the mk3 water pump for a mk4 one to match up with the mk4 radiator and fitting a new timing belt and gaskets along the way then fitting the last of the mk4 waterpipes all was going well until....... when i started to add the engine coolant it was apparent the front centre core-plug was missing!!! so cant progress the engine any further until this is sorted i managed to secure one later the same day for £1 but still need to drop exhaust to get a good bit of clearance to get a hammer involved on the job.
