Guest GINGExR2T
. Cheers guys, yer it is a nice car but I think they look better with kit on them, i'll probably leave it for now and just enjoy it :-) looks nice m8 whats the cabby in the back ground The one with the green cover over the screen is scrap, bought it off a mate who had spent 1000's on turboing it so that's were all the turbo stuff came from, I have rebuilt the engine even though it had only covered about 12-15k. The one in the garage is an F plate one I bought summer that I took the engine out to turbo to find the cross member needed replacing due to a small amount of rot, I ended up changing the headlight surrounds at the same time, Just needs the bay painting now, i'll probably just put the original motor back in it now though. Guest GINGExR2T
. Well I've had the car 2 weeks now so thought I'd get an update going on what's been going on, Managed to get a nice clean pair of 90 spec front seats to replace the 3i one's, paid a bit more than I want but they were only 10 miles from my house so all good. Also got a pair of Spec R tanks for a Fiesta Turbo, a swirl pot and breather for cheapness :-) :-) :-) gonna be painted black in the future. In some of the pics you can see another cabby with a green sheet on it, this was bought as a breaker a few months back, I sold a load of parts including a Quaffe diff box and got my money back on the car but was left with the turbo engine, stage 3 turbo, front mount intercooler, rad, Magnex exhaust and all the MFi management stuff. The engine was fine and only done about 15k, but I love building engines so pulled it apart for a freshen up as I knew I'd end up buying a car for it to go in. So after having the block and crank checked, the crank was polished, the block was striped back (was painted red) and repainted, new big ends, mains and rings it went back together. The spec is 1600EFi block bored 0.5mm Wossner low comp pistons ARP conrod bolts High pressure oil pump new water pump Baffled sump All lightened and balanced MFi head port inlet and exhaust ports standard valves Kent cam vernier pulley nonstretch head bolts That's it for now, got a few things I'm doing this week to it, so more updates soon. Thanks for looking Ginger .
Guest GINGExR2T
. Small update, Recaro's in Roof motor Rear disc brackets and handbrake cable ready for the turbo conversion And rear 253mm (not cossie 273mm) disc's than I already had in the garage for a good 9 years :-) And for the front I dug out a set of Hi-Spec 4 pots and 285mm disc's that I swapped for an XR2 Magnex exhaust and manifold a few years back, Callipers Disc's Got the car Taxed at the beginning of the month so just been enjoying the car for now. Guest GINGExR2T
. Small update, Now that Ford Fair has been and gone I can now think about putting the turbo lump in. I had been looking for ages for an OFAC FRST ECU and all the sensors but was having NO luck what so ever. Then my mate who had my old EFi turbo XR2 blew the head gasket on the XR2 which was so bad that it fucked the head up, Now my mate has always moaned that the XR2 with EFi never sounded as good as his old MFi turbo Cabby (also my old car that he had off me) because the tshhh from the dump valve wasn't as long and it didn't have the same exhaust note due to not having the metering head (yer I know what your thinking :-) ) . I was almost at a point of converting the cabby to MFi just so I could get it turbo'd when he asked if the XR2 could be changed to MFi whilst the head was off and needed replacing anyway, now I cant turn that down can I :-) . Now I had all the MFi set up ready SOOOOO, with the XR2 needing a new head we changed it to MFi and I kept all the EFi stuff :-) :-) :-) :-) ME HAPPY. So the cabby will be getting turbo'd soon :-) Ginger .
escortrs2000.co.uk
Sounds like a plan! I prefer the EFi turbo CVH. It sounds exactly the same from the exhaust, but you get a load of chatter to go with it Win win! Lee
Guest GINGExR2T
. Picked this little beauty up last week for £75, bargain in my eye's as it is really really clean. Guest GINGExR2T
. Car was MOT'd yesterday, straight through with no advisories, Poly bush set ordered, new bottom arms and track rod ends purchased, Just need to order a set of -20mm turbo springs and it's all go. Engine will be coming out over tomorrow and Monday. Ginger .
Guest GINGExR2T
Bit of an update, Last weekend the 2 week Turbo Cabby challenge started, I need the car ready and running by next Sunday as the weekend after I’m taking it to Forge Motorsport event at Castle Combe, That was a total of 3 weeks, which will give me a week to get a few running in miles and give it a bit of a shake down, Combe is only 60 miles from my house so not too far. Anyway with all the parts ready to go or on order after the MOT the stripe down began. Every part coming of is being striped and painted before going back on. Few pics of the progress Well that’s before it was cleaned etc Dash out for the wiring changes and to add the Amal valve wiring, fitted the chipped OFAC ECU and also had to change the leaky Matrix at the same time. That’s after a chuffing good clean. Starter striped back to bare metal and etched and satin blacked, looks a million times better. Deflex ERST full poly bush set turned up mid week I do have an IB5 box to go in and a spare LSD S2 diff, but due to time i havn’t yet got around to fitted the diff so I’ll sort this out in a few weeks time, just want it up and running at the moment. Engine is in as is the box with a pair of VibraTech box mounts I had in the garage. Will be cracking on tomorrow with a bit of luck. Ginger . Guest Tee Morrison
That's looking great, seen it on PF earlier too. How do you find fitting those bushes? I need to get a full set for my 90 spec but can't decide between those for cost, or Powerflex as they're supposed to fit better.
Guest GINGExR2T
How do you find fitting those bushes? I need to get a full set for my 90 spec but can't decide between those for cost, or Powerflex as they're supposed to fit better. For the money mate did go for Deflex, this is the 4th or 5th set I have had on different cars and always been fine, they have made changes to them over the years as this set has a few differences to a ERST set I had on my last cabby turbo. The only problem is they supply new washers for the anti roll bar to bottom arms that are way to small, I got mine through there Ebay shop, There listed as £155, I made an offer of £140 and they excepted straight away. I'm going to message them about the washers later as there no good. Can't see any reason to pay for powerflex at about twice the price. I had a full set on my XR2 turbo running 260bhp for 9 years and there still fine. Ginger .
Guest GINGExR2T
. Had a really good go on Sunday and got loads done, with the engine and box fitted and after TRYING to fit the rad, front mount and fans I found that I need to move the rad back plus the front mount didn't have the passenger side upper fixing so had to make one of the them. To get the bottom of the rad back I just made up a plate which moves the bottom of the rad into the bay by 40mm, Nice and easy and still have 30mm clearance to the turbo Ignore the rocker cover it's just a temp one, got another one being painted in the garage, New bottom arms, track rod ends and Deflex bushes Servo and master were cleaned, striped, etched and given a coat of satin black Whilst the servo was off the brake lines have been blown out to get as much of the old fluid out. Drive shafts have been clean and painted, front mount has been etched and given a coat of satin black, just the hub to do then :-) Being a 90 spec it has the extra exhaust hanger between the rear swing arms but the Magnex didn't so got one welded onto the exhaust last night, Just got to cut off and replace the 4" rolled in tail pipe as A. it looks shit and it's to short and B due to the size the back box hanger will not go on, So a smaller rolled 2-1/2" or 3" out will be fitted . All looking good for getting it up and running for the weekend. Edited September 2, 2014 by GINGExR2T
Guest GINGExR2T
. In the past I’ve read loads about over heating problems when having front mounts fitted, also having seen the same issue on a mates Orion Turbo. So I fitted the intercooler and wired the fans to a battery to see what the air flow was like through the IC and rad. Result, not much, most of the air from the fans just blew out of the gaps above, below and to the sides. So being a bit of an F1 fan a listen to them go on about hot and cold air traveling a different speeds etc I thought I’d seal the IC to the rad with foam tape (From Screw Fix) Which I fitted to the IC and looked like this, Refitted the IC and fans a reconnected to the battery, WHAT A DIFFERENCE, the increased air flow through the rad is very noticeable as now 100% of the air through the IC now has to go through the rad Hopefully this should make a difference. With it fitted it creates an air tight seal MountedRepositioned mounting points And 10-15mm of space between the fans and the inner edge of the bumper. I’ve done it this way as I didn’t want to modify the bumper in anyway and has been left standard Ginger .
