Guest Ville K
Hi, here is my project, it´s a ´90 spec XR3i which was a bargain as its quite awful as you can see. But I think I saw something deeper in it, as its totally original, no one hasnt altered anything. Yet. There is a lot of problems with the car, allthough it was driveable, the engine is quite badly worn or something is wrong with the breathing system, as there is oil flying everywhere when its started. And the interior is very dirty, top is gone and cables broken. And there are some dents and scratches too. The plan is to keep the car original from the outside and inside, including the cassette radio and carello spots. But the engine is going to be replaced with a 1.8 16v zetec from a 1998 Escort mk6 GT. I dont know much about electrics, but I know I can do the mechanical parts of the job, and there are few mates to help with the electrics, and they said it would be a quit easy job as this had the efi engine already. This is the situation right now: but there will be a slight time-out as the car which the engine is coming is still complete, and its up to my mate when he has time to strip all the bits I need. Ive bought some new or better parts for the car, for example all the wires for the top from ebay, new top (decided to try white, It would probably look great with the amalfi blue?), and almost like new LHD carello driving lights from basilbear. I hope you will be patient, as I dont know when I will post some updates, It might be ready for the next summer in the worst case, but hopefully will be driving at the end of the summer? This is our 5th car and our 3rd "hobby-car" so the funds I am going to spend will be very limited, hence no 2,0 zetec and lots of power, and I happen to like the original looks of old Henrys products We also have mk1 Cortina and a 1966 Mustang. Thanks for looking and I will be happy to read any comments and if you have any improvements or ideas? -Ville
Guest Ville K
I will also change the braking system as I really hate the "abs" system in these, they didnt work as they should when they were new and especially here when it might be slippery in the mornings I find the almost dangerous. I dont know why they didnt use the better system they used in sierras and granadas/scorpios, or was it too expensive for the little car? So, anyway, off they go and main cylinder and a booster from that same escort where the engine is coming.
Basilbear
Hi Ville, Great to see the piccies of your cabby. Apart from the roof, the body work looks in really good condition. It will be nice to see the progress as you restore her. Oh and post a piccy when you fit the headlights! ha!. I'm glad they have gone to a good home! Take care Avril
Guest Ville K
Hi Av and thanks for the comment, the body is quite good actually, floorpan is amazing, and sills are in very good nick. But there is few dings and a small accident damage behind the rear bumber, bumber is changed to a new one, but the dent is left untouched. And there is a small hole in the drivers side rear arch. And, there is a crack in the front bumber, but that can be fixed easily. This car is imported from Germany 4 years ago, but not been driven until last summer. Yes, I´ll post pics as soon as I get something new done or get some new parts

Guest Ville K
Hi and sorry for not updating for a long time, but there hasnt been any progress I managed to find a brand new 2,0 Zetec for my other project, so while I had the engine in my garage, it was time to modify the cvh engine mount to fit to the zetec: Here its ready with new insulator rubber. That 1998 Escort which my engine is coming from, is still untouched I found a better bonnet today, it was free and from a 1990 Diesel escort that was being crushed within 5 minutes, so a close call with that! Guest Ville K
Bought these today, they are 6,5x16" ET40, hope they fit. 195/45/16 might be the best otpion for tyres, right?

Guest Ville K
few pics: no need for air cond. or power steering anymore.. Dont know the word for this, but I need a shorter one What is a solution for a water hose problem, cvh uses different size hoses than zetec? A radiator from a zetec engined escort? Guest Ville K
Here it is both belts and a waterpump changed.. It moved easily on the floor half an hour later: Had to improve this rubbers metal jacket a bit as it touched the intake manifold quite easily. So a bit of grinding and welding was needed. I also improved the rubber part a bit with filling all the gaps with Sikaflex. There is a lot of space everywhere, I didnt believe it was this easy job.. More pics later when I get something done. Maybe its going to be on its wheels later this week. Edited July 26, 2011 by Ville K

Yes, it´s been a busy week, I try to do all the assembly job before my summer vacation starts next week, so my friend can start with the electrics. I hope I am able to drive with this when I go back to work after 4 weeks. Front bumber and bonnet are being sprayed this week, and I get new tires to the 16" wheels on saturday. will take more pics, I know you wait for the one from the front with the new headlamps I would love to visit ford fair some day, maybe I will come, who knows? By the way, if anyone has a extra tonneau cover at any color (preferably white, but will take gray or black too), and is willing to send it to Finland, and accepts paypal, PM me! Guest Ville K
yeah, I know, but its marked as a "low emission" so it is tested every year at the MOT centre. And I really dont want to put the cat on once a year for 15 minutes..
