Guest Graham
Well guys you all no that i pick up a cabbie with a cracked block due to no antifreeze put in . The car had sat on the guys drive way for a year or so, when i picked her up she was like a swimming pool inside .Well today i went up to Paul's in Worcestershire to pick up a motor that he very kindly gave to me, its a EFI motor so am going to have to put my own head on her. Also i got the car out for the first today from picking it up and just dumping it off at mine on Monday , Still very wet inside also the boot carpet is like a sponge so that's now in the house drying off in the bath tub Tomorrow am going to strip the head of the spare motor and see whats that like , I also had a head gasket from Paul. I have sent for head bolts and valve steam oil seals and some other bits and bobs . Edited January 9, 2011 by Graham

Guest Graham
Well the weather was to wet today to get the car out to dry here out , But i have taken the head of the spare motor that came with the car was very surprised to see the top of the piston very clean and the head was quite clean with no sludge and very little carbon on the valves, I have had the send for a valve spring tool as mine will not fit ,So as soon as that comes will nip the valves out for a regrind . Guest Graham
Will strip it out when i can get down there and get it our as the garage is small. , Well today my valve spring compressor came today so i have taken all the valves out , I did notice that on two exhaust valves that they both were missing a collet each ,The big question is where have they gone ? answers on a post card Edited January 12, 2011 by Graham
Guest jbh325i
I did notice that on two exhaust valves that they both were missing a collet each ,The big question is where have they gone ? answers on a post card I had that experience with my mates A4 lately. I dropped the sump to change the oil pump and found 2 collet's the scary thing was the car ran sweet before this and is still running the same way bar a new oil pump. we've picked up a replacement lump but due to the good Scottish weather we've not went any further and hes running it still. Guest Graham
Does make you think . Will this evening i ground the valves in did not take a look as they had been done not so long ago by someone , All lapped in fine so i then decided to polish the heads on the lathe , I found two that where few Tho bent so replaced then If i had not put then on the lathe i would have not known they where a bit bent ? Guest Graham
Well today i time to go down the garage and start to pull the old motor out , Took me most of the day to get the head off and all the rest of the stuff ,So now all that left to remove the old engine is to undo the bell hosing bolts and the engine mounts and its ready to pull. chaz
For a cab to have wet carpets for some time that floor is absolutley very solid, good luck with your work mate, hope you get some good weather to dry the carpets out, do you know where it is leaking from. Guest shaun
Cabbie looks nice and clean....as for putting engine back with gearbox in place rather you than me can be a right pain in the aRSe good luck....I went down this road with my mk4 in the P***ing down rain engine and box on the floor and lifted in together easier than trying to get engine and box mated in the car.. Guest paul xr2
Piece of piss to get the engine back in with the gearbox already in all you need to do is jack the box up on an angle lower the engine in jiggle it about a bit and it will drop straight on to the spline takes all of 5 minutes Mind you i have been doing it this way since i was 15 and im 30 now so ive had plenty of practice lol Edited February 2, 2011 by paul xr2
