Guest Per_Norway
This wasn't bought to be a project, I knew it had some issues(and therfore got a good price), but that it needed two weeks of work(and alot of swearing) to get it to work.. well, it runs now, lets hope it works for a while.. Fortunatley the rest of the car is in good shape, much because its an import with most of its miles in Germany.. less salt in winters, less rust.. Looked like this at arrival:(sorry about the iPhone quality) Call me old fashioned, but these were way too "Bling" for my taste: The engine had just gotten a new top because of a timing chain failure, but the job wasn't done properly so the top went off again: Changing the oil rings on the valves corrected the "blue cloud" and oil consumption: That done away with, some more sober wheels were fitted, and with its small idling issue solved(for now) its driveable too! There is still some issues to be adressed, electric radio antenna is stuck in halfway position, and minor cosmetic things.. i'll leave it for the winter and drive.. Guest Per_Norway
thanks ppl.. This one is in such a good condition all round that i think i'll keep it original all the way, the original rims is in the shed too.. The soft top proved to be watertight as well today, severe rain and not a drop inside.. I changed the lambda probe today and adjusted the idle mixture, this fixed the starting problem.. Next project is to install a small sub behind the rear seat to get a bit more punch from the stereo..
Guest Per_Norway
I Decided the cabbie was ready for a roadtrip, so the last 24 hours i've clocked 120(norwegian) miles on my way to the northeast of norway(kirkenes). There has been alot of rain/storm on the way, but the car ploughs through effortlessly, and not a single drop has entered the coupè! I'm not even half way yet, but it works fine now! still a bit hard to start warm, but no major problem..
Guest Per_Norway
Arrived in good time in Kirkenes! 220(still norwegian) miles so far, all i have left is the long way back.. the car is still working well, but has developed a habit of losing gearbox oil trough the driveshaft rings.. No problem to refill, i just hope it won't increase exponentially.. time will show, has been a great trip so far!

Guest Per_Norway
Just got back after approx. 3200 imperial miles on the road, great trip! Except for some loss of gearoil(1 litre), and some hesitation to start, the car performed very well! Some photos from the trip:

Guest Per_Norway
Thanks for the comments Haven't checked in here for a while, the cab is garaged for the winter, and the old VW Doka Syncro is on duty looking forward to a cold winter! cab is nice in summertime, but in the norwegian winter there's no substitute for 4WD and good ground clearance.. Only plans for the cab is a set of brand new injectors, these are the only plausible cause left regarding the starting issue.. the driveaxle gaskets are replaced, so the car is otherwise in good shape.. looking forward to roof down driving next spring! Guest Per_Norway
I just had my first cab-down ride yesterday, sweet! Only thing i've done during the winter is changing the injectors, this seems to have fixed the remaining starting issues from last year.. The only 'snag' left now is the eletric antenna, everything else is in good condition.. looking forward to a long warm summer!

Guest Per_Norway
Agh! Everything was working so well, and suddenly there was coolant on the floor.. I asume this calls for a new heater core, anyone here who have done this? Do I have to dismantle the complete dashboard for this? Another thing, do you know of any parts dealers in UK that ship to Norway? The heater core comes to a bit over 100£ here, and rear brake drums comes to well over 50£ each! by experience you have better prices over there, so please tell! Hi, I found these heater matrix on ebay for the Mk4 and thought they may help. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FORD-ESCORT-CABRIOLET-MK4-HEATER-MATRIX-/260788346775?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3cb8325f97 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Escort-Mk3-Mk4-Heater-Matrix-XR3i-RS-Turbo-Orion-/260776834018?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3cb782b3e2 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ESCORT-MK4-XR3i-RS-TURBO-HEATER-MATRIX-COMPLETE-/260781295412?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3cb7c6c734 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ford-escort-mk4-heater-matrix-unit-/320706890008?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4aab9ec918 Thanks Avril
Guest Per_Norway
Thanks, but i was hoping to find a new core.. I prefer to buy new parts in general, as you never know how far you get before the job has to be done again.. And with the price of 15£ for a new one theres no question.. BUT all i can find is for sierra MK2\Escort MK5! I'm tempted to buy it and check if it fits.. Anyone here know how much of the dash that has to be dismantled? Guest Per_Norway
Time for an update here! Up till now the car has been working fine except for starting when engine is warm. I thought this was because someone had put a K-Jet fuel distributor on this KE-Jetronic engine, so im now changing to a KE-Jet fuel distributor. Status now is that is starts and idles perfectly at any temperature, but once you press the throttle, it hesitates, runs up to 2-3000rpm, and from there starts to flutter and cough.. completely undriveable. The only thing i changed so far is the complete fuel central, and it worked on the other car.. Any Clues? Still can't find any diagrams\schematics on this engine, only the K-Jet cars and RS Turbo.. Guest Per_Norway
BTW: Other cars with KE Jetronic have a diagnostic port, do the RS Turbos have one?
