This car is evil I tell you, EVIL !!! Looks well smart mate, big thumbs up from me !!!

Its a generic feature on Mk5's and Mk6's mate, I think its just to make sure you are seen !!! I have had a Xenon kit on my Rover since Febuary, took 20 mins too fit, VERY EASY, plug in and play, just a matter of putting the buulb in to relace your old bulb and plug the ballasts in with the old wiring plug !!! I have a set next to me, had it for 6 months, got it for the old cab, if you want pics let me know, if you want one let me know as I can get disscout, i'll be doing a guide with piccys when I fit it to the Cab !!! Thanks for having a look for info mate, I have a Haynes electrical scematit of the head light system, its pretty simple until the wires go to the relays lol, i'm lost lol !!!

Right Mick, here goes, i'm in the car with the key in the off position, if I turn the headlights on 1 the side lights come on, its the small wedge 501 bulbs, not the headlight bulbs. When I turn the ignition to pre-ingnition where your radio, blowers and HUD warning lights come, on the head lights come on slightly, its the actual headlight bulbs that are semi-lit, if I turn the head lights up one more the main head lights come on full, then if I pull the stork back full beam comes on. All I want is the headlights to stay off when I put my side lights on, if you want I will do a little vid to explain tomorrow, all it is, if I fit my xenon kit it might get damaged with the small flow of electricity form the headlights being on so low on side light mode.

Too technical for me lol, struggled doing the door lights yesterday lol, finised one door lol, doing the other one today !!!

Might be worth looking at a cover for it for now !!!

Its as if the headlight bulbs are receiving 5 - 6v form somwhere when the ignition is switched on, thats why they come on dim, pretty pointles as why bother putting the small 501's in ??? It will effect the Xenon kit as it runs on 12 - 35v and it won't opperate propely on 5 - 6v, hence it might damage it, someone must know a way around this, failing that i'll just start taking relays out lol !!!

Hi Peeps !!! :big_wave: As many of you Mk5 and Mk6 owners may be aware, when you turn on you side lights with the ignition off the small 501 bulbs illuminate, but when you turn the ignition on, the headlights come on very low too, how the hell do I stop them from doing this as it will effect my Xenon headlight upgrade, (Guide coming with it too, watch this space !!!) is it a relay I need to rip out or a diode ??? ..........or a bypass ??? LOL !!! I supose instead of a genuine one, I guess I could knock up a fake, the hole in the bumper would be easy but making the grille would take some origanal thinking, and a little finesse !!!

Your stalk might be knackerd mate but just check your plastic cowel around the steering wheel is on straight as they can sometimes rub, if they are knackerd then a new set are a 5 min job to replace, very easy, you will find them in every scrapyard too, if they don't have a set, your in the bakery next door lol !!!

For your Mk5 I would say a 1.8 ZETEC, if its already got this engine get a MONDEO 2.0 ZETEC, its a good budget upgrade, not too many mods needed, your local mechanic should be able to do it but I think the loom needs to be swapped, if your getting a Mk6 dash installed even better, just get a Mk6 loom and you don't need to chop at the connectors !!! Other than that, save up for your RS2000 block !!!

Is the RED-TOP your new power plant mate ???
