StuDaBear
Zetec turbo it with a ofam ecu, 200-250 bhp should perk it up a fair bit. Â The ofam ecu will plug straight into the current ecu's wiring plug. Even a cvh turbo would be a lot better. I'm sure you could add a set of cvh turbo pistons to your current engine add a oil return to the block or top of the sump and your pretty much there. Ian71
I think your right stu, have been reading a few posts on various sites that say the same as. The engine itself seems in good shape, done 350 miles this week in it.
Guest username
Just to add a bit to this, I believe you could be onto something with the fuel pressure. The idle improves no end if I remove the vac pipe from our standard regulator, although some of that could be due to introducing an air leak to a rich running engine. (we're yet to have the CO properly set up, it's only been done by ear and that's totally inadequate since so many turns of the potentiometer make so little audible difference) That said, it still idles better/has less tendency to stall if the pipe is removed and plugged... Â Another point to check if stalling approaching a junction is an issue, something I only noticed when I took the throttle body off yesterday to clean it out and reset the butterfly closed stop. On the left side of the TB as you look at it under the bonnet (drivers side), near the TPS there is a small brass air bleed screw (or blanking plug hiding same). Â Ours had obviously been messed with previously as there was no blanking plug and the screw head had a couple of marks, "originally" it was set to 2.5 turns out from lightly seated (though I have no idea what the factory setting was?) and the revs used to dip considerably after blipping the throttle, sometimes enough to stall. Having messed round a bit we've come to a setting now of about 4.5 turns out and the engine is a lot more stable when coming back to idle. Ian71
Mk5 got a bit more zip with the upgraded fuel regulator,k&n induction kit ,change to Bosch plugs and small exhaust upgrade. It's still not great and you really have to thrash it in the lower gears, but it is a lot better. I even feel a bit more confident when I pull to pass other cars now. It will do for now and sounds raspy too.
