The drivers side one looks a bit worse off than the other but I suppose it depends on if you want the hassle of doing them both, Cos if it were me I would be replacing both just because its worth doing while its stripped so you have peace of mind for the future

cheers lil al,

not worried bout doin them both, but was thinkin as the near side wing was a pattern part panel it is a lot thinner than the original off side panel & as i dont think i can afford orig panel's & 2 repair this inner wing's as there better metal (ie thicker metal) than puttin on thinner panel's of metal. decision's, decision's, decision's!!!!!

I agree with stu, nows the time to do it, you will not want to go back and do it again in the future.

I have helped out fitting after market inner wings to mk4 escorts and some times the shape of the inner wingpanels dont quite have the same shape to them as the originals.... not a masive head ache but worth noting.

thats why when i need to plug a hole as small as that i use an oldship yard trick well 90% of a old guys shipyard trick :salut_gb:

get your self a piece of copper big enough to cover the hole your working on (i cant afford a piece of copper that big so i use aluminium (hence the 90% ) g-clamp it in place over the hole, then when you start to weave back and forth filling the hole from the oposite side the weld sticks to the weld and not the alloy. once done remove clamps and tap inner wing with hammer the alloy piece will fall off you can then grind it down into the shape you require and if any holes apear its just a case of going back over them again with the welder and re-dressing it till your happy. :banana_dance:

So you dont cut out all the inner wing but you can have your repair piece as thick as you like . :banana_dance:

Hi Avul,

I have been reading your thread with great interest, as I hope to be starting my Mk III soon and yours would definitely seem to be heading in the right direction.

Good effort and keep on with the updates. Any ideas on the colour, or are you going to go back in the same shade of red?

Hi Avul,

I was going to say the same thing about my lottery numbers. They keep drawing the wrong numbers out (or at least that is what I tell myself each time!)

I have not started a thread on my Mk III as yet, due to the fact that it is still sitting in a garage. That said, I have been watching everyone's threads and there is some great information on the site. I cannot wait to get started, but will probably on more than one occasion, regret saying that  . As soon as I do, I will share my bleeding knuckles and loss of friends to cold nights in a garage!!

well got sum pics of the 1 thing thats bin keepin me busy wiv cars at the mo, ad 2 get sum bits frm the scrappy & the car i found ad the parts i needed plus i

noticed that the rear brakes had been replaced & looked like new so i thouht thats just wat i need, bonus

new rear disc's, pads, hand brake shoe's & all the new springs 4 the shoe's, front & rear calipers & carrier's all 4 the grand sum of £40 & i nabbed the master cylinder while i was there

got a seal kit 4 front & rear & needed a piston 4 1 of the front's as 1 was corroded

got new front disc's & pads 4 £20 not wat ya know but who ya know, hey

got the calipers & carrier's dipped & electri coated 4 £20 & three cans of hammerite & this is wat i'v ended up wiv, bigger stoppers, only prob is it not 4 me cab but 4 me bmw but shound bring her 2 a holt a lot quicker

oh but 1 big prob i did ave was i sprayed them 1st wiv very high temp paint, man wat a mistake that was!!!!! sprayed them & the paint was really easy 2 flake even wiv my finger nails so thought i'd put them in the oven on full wack 4 bout an hr & 20 mins 2 bake them & wat do ya know, run finger nail's over them & they flaked like a bugger

even tho they flaked that easy it took me bout 2 hrs wiv a drill & wire brush, not a happy man!!!

but still gonna put them on 2moro & cant wait :banana_dance: should b a better drive wen done. :drivin:

hi tony, thanx m8

yea the cab will b done the same way, the best possible job 4 the best possible price, most of it done by myself

i'm a bit of a perfectionest & now i'v got a babe on the way she may take a bit longer  but i'l do my best cos i wanna drive her again :drivin:

cant beat a bargain!!!

only prob i had with fittin the brake's was i ran out of time 2 fit the rear's, but it turned out 2 b a bit of a god send. as soon as i fitted the fronts i ad 2 go up 2 my inlaws 2 feed the cat as they were away on hols & only bout alf a mile up the road & BANG the rear springs that hold the hand brake shoe's 2 the bak plate pulled thro the bak plate & they got court up & were bangin around inside  bummer cars hey, so ad 2 bike 2 wrk bout 6 miles ther & 6 miles bak 4 2 days & 4 o'clock in the mornin aint really fun, but needs must i spos

anyway new bak plates frm bmw is cheap, surprisingly so ordered all 4 corners & pick um up 2moro, least it wasn't wiv the new brakes on, so gotta b pleased really!!!!

hi all, bin really slow on avul of late

no pics but here's where's she at, at the mo!!! got the garage doors well & truely secured, if any1 try's 2 get in there now they ave 2 break the bloody doors off!!!

got sum front electric window motors, got the tyre's off the 15" cossie wheel's, three were buckled so got them straightened, but the 1 that wasn't buckled needs a bit more wrk cos there was a big & quite deep chip in the lip on the outside edge & the wheel bolt hole's (x2) ave been pulled tho & ad sum tappered washer's put in, so gotta put sum thought in2 that 1? but will get them sorted all the same!!! the thing wiv restorin old cars!!!

did ave a thouught off gettin sum s2 dogleg's but i ad a read of all of this post again & saw the 14" lattice, so the 15" r def goin on!!!

anyway the main reason i was gonna update was i ad a m8 give me a price 4 puttin on all the front end & he came bak 2 me wiv £350 so gotta save sum penny's b4 i can do much more 2 her, i hate it wen things ave 2 go on the slow, dont like slow!!! me a bit crazy  lol

if any1's interested in the garage door's i sorted, i'l post a pic of fortknocks if ya like?, hehe.

Omg it's been 4 years since she's been touched, just waiting to get her near to where I know live which just over 30 away, and then try to make some sort of start on her again this year, hard when life throws some big sticks at you lol, but never forgot about her
