it maybe the crank seal, but those sump gaskets are really crap to fit, i used superglue to place it on the sump, and gasket sealer to mate it to the block, it stopped leaking then.

 

don't worry tho as the gasket will pull away from the sump very easily when needing to be replaced again. it just stops it from slipping about when putting on

All the bolts on the sump were a little loose so i have cranked them up to FT. Going to give it another run in a while. When they rebuilt the engine they put on the sump and gasket so didnt even think it would not be ok lol.

its a funny thing sump gaskets, too loose and they leak, too tight and they split and leak. got to be just right. hopefully that will be sorted now.

 

i had a slight leak on my 2.1 zvh ever so slightly coming down the timing belt side. but it wasn't the sump. i never got it sorted. it was one of 2. crank seal or oil pump. and my bottom end was built up by an engineering company.
