  1. have a good look at it my mate's broke once and he got it working fine with cable ties, if you need one I have one here.
  2. 10/40 is the right oil for a standard engine I believe, also I have read that unless you change both the cam and the tappets then it will be noisy again in no time.
  3. Infinity for sure you pay for quality.
  4. Nice car, usually I don't like the newer shape one's but that is pretty spot on.
  5. Yea as already said it can be adjusted on the regulator but will shut fine if you close the door by pushing on the window that one has worked for hundreds if not more people before now lol.
  6. Well I sorted all the brakes out and took it for its test it FAILED, handbrake 11% efficient (I noticed it wasnt the greatest but 11% jeez) headlight too high 1 of, side repeater not working, 1 brake pipe corroded and 1 tyre under the limit. The brakes in general passed which I was happy about as well as the emissions which were great lol 1.13% CO with a max of 3.5 and 583ppm HC with a max of 1200. I am going to sort the brake pipe, headlight and side repeater the garage will whack some part worns on the back as the other rear was close to the limit and im considering asking them to do the handbrake too as trying to do anything on that with the car just up on a jack is not fun! Can't wait until it's on the road again I found some old pics of the blue one, one of it with my crx thought some people might be interested...
  7. Well the ABS is not the greatest and is a pain in the ass when it comes to taking the gearbox off as both the modulators are bolted to it all gets in the way(and ive done that alot lately, getting sick of taking it apart just to put it back together again), plus I didn't know how well it would work with cossie 4 pots on the front, someone told me they would work better without it. Just gotta get the siezed bleed nipples out of the rear drum casing put some new one's in then can bleed it up and get the poor thing some ticket and rent.. Nice one mate I actually found mine a few days after I paid dam children hiding things lol!
  8. Backfiring and cutting out is probably the timing out in some way ie crank sensor coil pack or even the belt slipped. My water pump blew it's gasket last year and made the timing belt slip but that was more than a few ridges and bent about 6/8 valves.
  9. This problem can usually be the starter getting hot..some heatwrap around the downpipe can help that. I have had a coil overheat before and cause the same sort of thing but im guessing as yours is a '90 it will be efi and have no coil. Also make sure your fan comes on and giving the water a flush and refill could help the cooling..if it is getting really hot and losing alot of water could be your headgasket.
  10. cheers guys, I wasnt so sure about the red but it looks good in the engine bay now it's on so i'll probably leave it. Have taken all the ABS off it aswell and put some new pipes in and non abs driveshafts. Also put adjustable spax and lowering spring on one side at the rear today, the other side can wait did enough today lol.
  11. I think I read somewhere the best thing to do is get a 220mm efi flywheel and an rs turbo clutch and it will all fit fine. Well maybe some re-tapping somewhere along the lines....im just trying to remember what I have read there are a few sites out there with really good info.
  12. Yes new mounts mate, £10 each from ebay lol. They are good at the moment, see how long they last though !
  13. Hi as far as im aware it doesn't matter which zetec you use, all down to preference. The 1.8 is only easier because it's out of an escort a 2.0 will go in fine with some of the escort zetec bits. I think the later engine was the one I decided on for the future so the black top I think, as for which cars mondeo's/ebay there are loads even brand new one's for around 600.
  14. Bit of an update since last year....I have done basicly nothing, put clear indicators on. Until the other week when I realised I had to change the gearbox so I cleaned up the cradle and bits sprayed them same red as the car, cleaned the gearbox up a bit aswell and done a shoddy refurb on some rear wishbones. Front cossie brakes on the way though
  15. Yea im dumb it's 3/16, you can delete this mods if you want.
  16. Mine hoons oil out of the breather, but on the opposite side of the bay as it's efi. I guess it's fumes coming from the crankcase breather into the rocker and then out of the filter..only a guess and no idea of cause.
  17. If anyone could tell me the width of brake pipe I would need for my mk4 id be grateful, going to take the abs off so need to run some new line's and didn't know which size to buy..thanks
  18. Make sure your crank position sensor is on properly, it's above the starter on the block the same sort of plug that the idle control valve has I think.
  19. Tried to edit this bit in but wouldn't let me, Make sure you put gear oil in and not engine oil as you were asking where to put it, didn't want you putting engine oil in the gearbox.
  20. Undo the top plug which is an 8mm hex key(on mine anyway apparently they can be torx) fill it up until the oil is less than 10mm from the top but more than 2mm use a bit of wire bent to get a level. The plug is on the gearbox at the front the top one will be round with the allen key bit in the middle and the bottom one will have a nut shape with a long bit protruding off it.
  21. It's a piece of piss to change, if you have abs it can be a pain in the ass but in the end its just more stuff to take off. If you take the rollbar off the gearbox will drop out on its cradle. The shaft bearing has gone in mine and that is rattling in neutral then with the clutch in stops making a noise. It was dry and that was grindy noises followed by the odd clanking noise which went after filling it up. I did think the rattling was the thrust bearing so changed that just to put it all back together and it was the shaft bearing all along. Whack some gear oil in it and see if it changes can't hurt if it's dry. Ceased bolts probably will be the worst bit of it.
  22. Id be tempted to whip the head off and check everything inside as if you have changed everything outside...doesn't the mfi have a fuel computer maybe try swapping that out. Just some guesses
  23. Try what lee said mate, pity your no-where near me have got one you could of tried.
  24. Throttle cable stuck somewhere ? TPS playing up, jammed throttle body...or could just be a vacuum hose off as that would do that too.
