  1. I did do all 8, didn't change the seals or the guide's it was a get it all going as quick as possible thing and as cheap which is why I used valve's out of another head(after a bit of a clean up), not new one's. I used a flapwheel with polishing compound after a decoke with a thin wire brush and alot of buffing ! The surface of the head just got a good buff up and a good clean with white spirits as it was all I had laying about, did a fairly good job though. Cheers for the cillet bang trick i'll remember that one Rob
  2. I can only suggest ford if they still make them.
  3. nice cab, if you don't mind me asking how did you do your dash ? looks absolutely blinding. Must be a pain being LHD aswell !
  4. Can't help you on a supplier matey, I think the all standard ford hoods were vinyl. If you take the whole frame off it's really easy to change, if you just getting a new skin can be a pain. It'd be Mk6.
  5. Spent the last couple of days swapping valve's over and cleaning my head up. Got my head gasket and bolts today put it all back together and it works ! Well it works as well as it did before it broke so it'll do. Some pic's of the before and after of my head...if i'd had more time i'd of made a better job of it and polished the intake and exhaust but they just got de-coked. Woo it works !! lol Rob
  6. Valves are well wonky now ! Piston's took a beating too but are in one piece. Some pics anyway..
  7. I don't know if this makes any difference or not but I think my ISCV might of been knackered beforehand it had a bit of a rough idle and would run lumpy every so many seconds, unplugging the ISCV made no difference to the way it idle'd. Never had an efi escort before so all bits like this are new to me. Im really hoping the valve's are not bent but if they are can you use any 1.6cvh valves? As I have a whole cvh carb engine in my garden, and an mfi head somewhere else. I have read somewhere that the cvh is supposed to be a "non-interferance" engine and as such the valves and pistons shouldn't collide even with the timing out ? I am gonna try and mess with the timing some more today as the backfiring and blowing air back out of the airbox seems timing related ? Im not a mechanic everything I have learnt has been through doing things myself, so if im missing anything obvious that would be why
  8. It had jumped about 5 teeth! I ripped it apart today took the pump off and I can say the only difference between that and the new one was that the old one went round alot easier didn't sound off or anything. While it was all off I took the oppurtunity to pressure wash all the oil and rubbish that had built up over the years at least made it a bit cleaner. Put the new pump and belt on, timed it up as best I could then had a crack at starting it. It started but was rough as and would only stay started with a good few revs had no tick over at all and stunk of fuel. I then got the rocker cover off made sure the cam and valve springs were at least in one piece and they look fine, whacked in some new lifters while it was all off. I gave the timing a tweak started it again with a very slight improvement the tick over was still like being inside a giant vibrator but it would still run with some encouragement. I put the airbox and the bit that goes from that to the throttle body back on then it wouldn't fire at all which gave the battery a chance to decide it had enough and give up. At which point I gave up for the day im hoping it was running so bad because I had got water in somewhere it wasn't supposed to be but probably not. It seemed really like the timing was well out or only running on 2 or something i'll have another poke tomorrow I guess anyone with any idea's is more than welcome to suggest them! Rob
  9. Cheers for the quick reply I will do
  10. I was driving down the road today at normal speed in traffic when my engine started making a very loud rattleish noise which sort of sounded in time with the lifters. I pulled off the main road which was a good idea as the car lost alot of power and sounded worse so I pulled over took a look, decided was nothing to be done on the side of a road with no tools so tried to get it home. It got a few hundred metres and died so I turned it over and it gave me a backfire and a cloud of black smoke. So had to fork out a score to get recovered. Now when I try and turn it over it sounds a bit off not quite sure how but not right and won't fire. It looks like the water pump has blown it's gasket there is a sort of grey/whitish residue sprayed up from there so im guessing it's gone. I'm really hoping the noise was just the pump on it's last legs but I think im being too hopeful seen as it won't even fire now. I won't get the chance to rip it apart and have a good look for a while got a nightshift tonight and will sleep tomorrow just thought someone might know what damage i've probably done and save me a bit of time when I do look at it. It's a 90' EFi. Having a great time ! Rob
  11. I have a set of xr3i seats that are pretty good condition just an oil mark on one of the fronts. If you still need some.
  12. The 18's look nice, something to be said for the deep dish look though
  13. I tried the blowtorch and twatting it alot, just mashed the nut quite alot didn't move a mm. Got a descent garage round here to whack them on for me for £25 all tracked up. I felt a bit of a tit taking it in for something like that im sure having the car over his head helped him a bit though.

    Help!

If it isn't firing a possible cause could be the crank position sensor, if that isn't on properly or is broken then you wont get any spark. Im only assuming your engine would have one as I have never owned a mk5 but yea, could be your problem.
  15. Personally I would re-trim them, not spray them. I sprayed my dash and am now waiting till I have the cash to re-trim the doorcards then gonna do the rear panels. Used vinyl paint on the dash stuck quite well, don't know about spray for the panels as they are material.
  16. Think the Haynes manual states 10w40, I just did a change on mine and used Castrol GTX 10w40. Probably would of used magnatec if I wasn't so tight.
  17. I have 2 standard mk4 bonnets you could have the best one for a tenner if you wanted it.
  18. Im only 10 miles or so from kings lynn didn't know people on here were so close !
  19. Better calipers and slightly larger disc's I think someone else can tell you exactly im sure.
  20. Just a couple of rubbish pics of the latest cabriolet in a long line lol. Had a new clutch, bearing and plate fitted, koni fully adjustable's on the front with lowering springs, sprayed the dash black(grey dash always annoyed me), put my half leathers in it, some infinity components in the back pods, fitted omp strut brace and magnex backbox. Got some spax adjustable's for the back but no springs yet, got some new lifters to put in aswell and all the bits for a good service just not got round to any of it yet. Still needs loads doing to make it a nice tidy motor but it's not too bad.
  21. Anyone have some way I have overlooked to get rusty old track rod end's off, have been putting wd40 on them everyday and giving them a go but they really seem stuck solid. My mate does have a blowtorch take it that's gonna be the only way im gonna do it ? Cheers for any replies.
