Drivers floor and speaker cover soaked, Passenger side dry. If anyone has any advice, please help me out, just had a new mohair roof fitted, spending loads on different seals etc on ebay, and not much of summer left to enjoy her.

That may be the door stop damage? Dash needs to come out ideally to get to the hinges for movement, this will give you lift, if you want it pulled in you need to move the part on the door b pillar, loosen the hex and move inwards, but that won't give too much at the end you have the problem

Was just thinking about the dash. I removed the cluster and surround, but still couldn't get to or see the top bolts for the hinge, Haynes say just remove the pin, but that ain't going to help

You can't remove the pins on them, it is a dash out job and you'll need to remove the speaker pod to get to the bottom hinge, and something like a trolley jack to support the door when its open, its easier as a two man job to be honest

Looking like a job for next weekend then.

Whats the best way or doing it? Slacken 4x bolts, lift a bit and re tighten, or slacken and shut the door then re tighten?

Not really done door adjustments before

Lots of swearing later. Managed to loosen bolts, adjust the door as much as possible. Still seems to be a big gap between door and a pillar. Just waiting for the rain to check properly

Looking at your pics, I wonder if the problem is the alignment of the quarter window, rather than the whole door? Does the rest of the door sit ok, with reasonable gapping and alignment?

If this is the case, it's possible to remove the window guide that forms the vertical frame for the quarter window. The quarter glass can then be pulled out and you can apply gentle pressure to the top of the frame to push it in, closer to the A pillar. This is best done with the door open and a large block of wood in the door frame to give you room to move the quarter frame.

You could also try the short cut method of leaving the glass in and applying pressure to improve the alignment. There is the risk of breaking the glass if you're too heavy handed.

Good luck, let us know.

Think you maybe right. Ever since I've had the car. The window goes too far up because the window height stop bolt is missing, so maybe over the year's the top of the door has been forced out

That would do it. The quarter window unit really is quite weak and the glass rising too high against the roof rubber would act as a lever. Put the window at its lowest setting and try moving the quarter window. You'll be surprised how easily it pushes in. Be careful not to overdo it and risk the glass.

The high window position you refer to is probably the reason for the rain getting in. You could try a suitable bolt to limit the height, from memory it is just there to resrict the movement of the lower window rail. Let us know how it goes.

I'll let you know next weekend, been a bit hit and miss with the weather, going to take the quarter glass out, I'm a bit heavy handed.

Does the main glass have to come out as well, or will the quarter glass pass if the window is all the way down?

The last time I worked on this was to convert a standard XR3i door into one that would fit a cabriolet. This meant I removed all the glass. It is not too difficult, use the Haynes (sounds like Star Wars  ). With the vertical guide and main glass removed, you can pull out the quarter glass easily. Fine adjustment of the upper frame is do-able with no glass to risk. If you leave the main glass in it's impossible to withdraw the quarter glass as the frame is still fixed in place.

Where abouts should the bolt be to stop the window going to high? Haynes says top left on the door, its electric if that makes a difference

Anyone selling a drivers side electric window setup? Don't think I'll be able to get the height stopper/adjuster separately, and don't fancy drilling holes through the door to bodge a bolt
