Guest El87cabi
Ordered some other handling bits Then about 3 or so weeks ago i got to work Yep, i think it's safe to say those tie bar bushes had had it The fuel tank is off too (again) this time so it can be sprayed with the swing arms, drum plates etc, does anyone know weather i should a. have it primered and sprayed or b. hammerite areosol it myself or c. have some parts powder coated? not to clued up on bodywork or undercar bit protection though i am going the get some clear car underseal. Degreased the back section under the car and then it's been static since then, may get a chance to put it back together weekend after next but i'm not holding my breath lol

Guest diggy
Just read through your post and you have done a bloody good job with it so far! Lets hope that the jobs get easier and that it gets finished and nothing else goes wrong fingers crossed! The joys of owning a ford hey lol
Guest El87cabi
Thanks diggy, as per gingers suggestion and my paint guy taking forever i went with the hammerite option and here are the results, the car at present is still minus the back running gear but i'm gonna try and get it back on this weekend. In the meantime i've clear waxoyled the underside and refitted the fuel tank with my mate alan's help again (not sure how your meant to use the spray applicator on your own tbh when your laying underneath a car lol) A shot of it before Better leave those sleepers where they are, lol
Guest El87cabi
1 freshly sprayed fuel tank My make shift/do oven (don't worry, the fuel tank didn't go in here lol) Due to the low temperatures while i was spraying (and probably my poor spraying) i have used four cans of Hammerite? Quite pleased with the result, brand new pins n springs thanks to my mechanic john Poly bushes as i hope not to remove the swing arms for a while

Guest El87cabi
Hi all, well sunday came and i got busy That was about as far as it went for sunday, got a call from al, ended up helpin put a gearbox in a clio, lol. Let me just state - i f**kin hate clio's after that, in fact, excluding the 205Gti and possibly the R5 Gt Turbo i hate all french cars lmao Monday came, as did the rain, and thanks to some help from my workmate Sorin we finally got the car back on all four wheels Tuesday, more rain after wk was cancelled the front end was set about, my mate alan very kindly agreed to help even with the awful weather, i own him a big thank you and a steak and merlot pie down the pub Sod axle stands Our sort of shelter lol As you can see it was highly effective lmao Mission accomplished, and a new steering rack in to boot A big thanks to the guy's at Central Tyre's for doing my tracking and pointing out i've probably got a saggy new shock. Oh well, will begin figuring that 1 tomorrow.... Edited November 27, 2012 by El87cabi
Guest El87cabi
Hi all, sorted the saggy shock, my rear spring rubber insert things weren't in the same place lol Had john sort my brakes too, 4 clicks til the shoes wear themselves even and a new cable that goes from the handbrake to the cable, so solveing my Qr lever handbrake feel. Saturday came, and after a trip to tesco's (with a small amount of right foot action on the way home) al and i met up, had a cuppa, then took the car apart again Ok, pretty sure i got this job dialled More dirt Five minutes later 'Told u this wouldn't be a problem' says i to alan A minute later Me<---- 'ffs, what idiot did that?' Guest El87cabi
Right, think we need a better view on this Hate taking speedo cables off, but i will try, and fail Enter Alan Got it on the first attempt, jammy git, lol Cable identifed as earth for alarm, rerouted and rearthed, offending part removed, lower bush was a mess, here's what was giving me most of my iffy steering Here's what it should look like Holy crap Batman, lol
Guest El87cabi
Fitting the lower bush is a bitch, moving it from there to up against the uj was probably the longest part of the job This bolt came free so it was circumnavigated, strongly suspect housing? for pedals and steering column is slightly twisted clockwise due to previous owners accident but if i'm right it only shows visually as the car is now driving straight There we go, all done, just add a wheel and she's ready for a test drive Test drive went very well, the car finally felt fully planted on the road and so received a bit of a spanking lol. All play and movement eliminated from the steering wheel, reckon i probably need to replace the second hand Tca's i fitted when the engine went in though, i'll call that a success Next up, fix the temp gauge as it may be reading low (rev counter seems to have fixed itself?) do the mk5/6 clutch pedal conversion when the parts arrive, and i suppose a tune up would be in order, so the cam needs to go in and i really should change the air filter, gonna be busy
Guest El87cabi
Hi all, parts arrived, here's the latest work Bye bye Gti Gearknob, helllo Momo lol Shame no 1's gonna see thisCabi to the rescue again, van don't like -5Dumbie run done, easy peasy, right, now to try it while on my back under the dash (sighs)The easy bit Edited December 17, 2012 by El87cabi
Guest El87cabi
About 2hrs later, after some initial issues and some swearing (sorry mr bt guy across the road, lol) Alan kindly came over and after a bit of teamwork, i ended up with this I'll say 1 thing, its easier to fit a cable than a mk4 OE spec As you may notice it's been tested, all i'll say is if you do this convo don't screw the bolt in too far to start with or u may find your knee by your ear fore u find the bite point lol

Guest El87cabi
Hi all, well, after a family emergency for my alarm fitter on the friday, Rakesh from GAP Security came down on Tuesday to fit my new alarm, top blokes, him and his brother, carried on after dark to get it all done for me, good job too as when i went to lock the hood down the passenger side lever came off in my hand! Went n dug out a spare next day and did the swap, one interesting thing Rakesh found while removing my old selca immobiliser, not only was it wired directly to the ignition barrel, the fuel pump live had also been cut and the immob wiring added. Took the car to tesco's next day, OMG, car now works! Let me elaborate, the car was drivable before but i knew from my old mfi and my mates XR2i that she wasn't quite right, now the selca's gone i have, no hesitation / misfire while coasting off gas, i can finally drive at 30 in 5th, even in traffic, it's a different car Well chuffed, now all i gotta replace the roof, frame and top cover, only thing i'm lacking is somewhere to swap frames and keep it til i can get a booking for the new top Edited December 21, 2012 by El87cabi

Guest El87cabi
Hi all, to say it's been a while is an understatement to say the least, been a proper mission of a year, still not fully over got more upheaval to come shortly - BUT things have been moving along, like my cabi to the shows Took a while but i've finally made it to most and met some of you in the flesh, well pleased Now for the update, tbh mostly been driving and enjoying the cab this year though with an initial compression test of 63- 82 psi across the 4 pots (should be about 180-190psi i'm told) i've not got all of her yet lol. Right, the update, dropped all this off to my good friend Matt before fitp While i waited thought i'd keep myself busy Shiny
Guest El87cabi
Hello again Been a bit sidetracked the last few mouths after moving home, here is the rest of the update i began: One efi head after being striped and going to be acid dipped and skimmed Matt told me it could've been done better
