Not too bad

Well, better than rust, in retrospect prob should have gone with a spray can, not smooth hammerite. See what it looks like in the morning

Too Tired for an update last night so heres Wednesday's progress

IMG_0807.jpg

This is the other end of the gearbox breather pipe after we'd broken it putting the engine in on sunday? (been loosing track of day's atm)

My Friend and mechanic John managed to extract it AND fit another, nice

IMG_0808.jpg

We did think the engine was a bit tappety when it was started, this turned out to be an incorrect mani gasket

IMG_0809.jpg

Dodgy cable repair now soldered and shrink wrapped so no more running faults from that for me, John's to the rescue again

IMG_0813.jpg

Well happy with the how the underside came up

IMG_0815.jpg

Right, mot time...........

Well, she failed, offside rear drum binding and a missing split pin on the drivers side track rod end :glare: ffs

IMG_0817.jpg

Al taking on the drum as i was kinda stressed, glad i had used a rubber hammer to aid drum removal as i hit the arch trim by accident, lol

IMG_0818.jpg

Wasn't the drum's. (Sighs) A fair bit of fiddling later......

IMG_0820.jpg

New handbrake cable from my old cabi out the shed and fitted

IMG_0821.jpg

IMG_0823.jpg

Arildite still drying, be interesting to see if the starter motor heat shield holds together.

Right, better get on with todays tasks, lets see if i can get the bumper and centre caps sprayed by sunday, laters all

IMG_0828.jpg

Changed both track rod ends

IMG_0825.jpg

Put the centre caps on to see how close they were to matching the alloy's

And cleaned the car

IMG_0832.jpg

IMG_0833.jpg

IMG_0829.jpg

Car now has mot and tracking has been done

All i gotta do now is get the bumper n caps in tomorrow and hope they can be done in time, plus readjust the linkage.

A big thankyou to my friend's Alan, Will's, John and Tom for their help in putting the car back together, couldn't have done it without you all

Thanks ginger, don't trust axel stands much.

Well, as some of you may or may not have noticed, i didn't make it to ford fair

IMG_0834.jpg

Got the front bumper ok, it's a couple of shades too light but as a first guess from me on the colour it's pretty close and at least its blue

IMG_0835.jpg

The trouble started after a second cable repair then test drive had me looking for a new altenater, managed to get 1 from midnight motors by 10pm and fitted it sun morning.

Assuming the fault was cured got sorted out and then Alan and i ran started the car. There was a loud sort of fucked altenater bearing noise. It seemed to lessen after a few mins so we went up and down the road once.

Big mistake. The noise got louder. Pulled back onto the driveway and within a minute smoke started coming out the bonnet and the car cut out.

The smoke was coming from the now cooked starter motor

Turns out when i'd repaired the join and cable end on the starter/altenater cables i'd accidentally put the blue and red/black wire on together so the starter was running at the same speed as the engine

Whoops. Did manage to get a new starter and drove the car up as a test run but it was over by the time we got to silverstone.

Oh well, try again next year.

A few other things happened on saturday too.....

IMG_0842.jpg

Found this on my return home from picking an altenater up from a mate, came off a festa turbo so no fitto, obviously my road had been closed so it took an age to get back to my house

The field fire behind my house

IMG_0840.jpg

It took a while for the peeps at home to realise my car was slowly filling with ash but at least they made an effort lol

On the drive saturday i'd noticed an odd feel and creaking coming from the brake/clutch pedals, upon investigation on wednesday it was discovered that the previous owner had for some reason taken the clutch/brake pedal assembly apart and not put it back properly so the pin was working its way out, this took alal and myself 3 hours to fix (neither of use were in much of a mood to do it after the weekend) fixed the pedals but after spending 3 hrs taking turns to lay upside down under the dash trying to get the thing back together both of us were in a fair bit of pain.

This saturday....

IMG_0894.jpg

For fcuks sake

IMG_0895.jpg

IMG_0896.jpg

Well, at least i now know why i've been losing the odd gear when the car warmed up, back on the road in 30 minutes thanks to dad running the spare 1 up :salut_gb: nice 1 dad

Also had 1 of the new altenater's casing bolts come loose later in the day and started rattling around but this was spotted and tightened once we could get at it without burning ourselves, Im beginning to wonder if this cabi wants to be fixed at all cos it feels like it's trying it's hardest to break lol
