It's about time I sorted a thread just for Juliette.

I'm going to take my sweet time building this thread so a summary is car bought for £250 August 2010 and money, blood, skin and time has been invested since. Nowhere near how I want it yet, but the funding is drying up.

I'll try and include every minor petty thing to pad it out, but here goes...

August 2010: Bought the purple hairdresser chariot as a donor for the wifes car but was too good to rip apart. Aside from the sunbleached miscolouring and rotten inside, the shell had promise and the engine worked.

IMG_0575.JPG

After several hours with the T-Cut, collinite, and turtle it was starting to look respectable from the outside...

IMG_0716.JPG

Entered it into a euro rally due to start in April 2011 so needed a team name...

IMG_0689.JPG

The stereo didn't work so needed to bodge that in. It had been wired previously by an idiot so colours weren't correct. Proved a nightmare but got there in the end...

IMG_0687.JPG

IMG_0688.JPG

After that, off with the door cards, in with the fronts...

IMG_1375.JPG

And too lazy to peel rear cards, simply prised the grills off and fitted the rears...

IMG_0865.JPG

Then after the nice stuff was done, time to replace the soggy carpet and clean off the mould...

IMG_1290.JPG

IMG_1203.JPG

I found a new carpet, but decided just to strip it all out for the time being...

Those seats are horrible, so managed to grab a complete RS2K recaro set...

IMG_1346.JPG

Wrong runners and my rally co-driver comes in at in excess of 20 stone and wouldn't fit, so they went and I found some Si kit...

Seats3.jpg

So at this point, time to fix the leak. In the end, the pool of water that kept appearing behind the passenger front seat was coming from a dodgy seal in the roof rear window letting water in, running behind back seats, along the underside of the electrics for the rear window and dropping at the base of the door. That was a bugger to figure out.

By this time, we'd managed to get a small cluster of sponsors and my talent for blagging stuff was starting to pay off. New exhaust back box, delivered and subsequently installed for a total £30...

IMG_1268.JPG

IMG_1304.JPG

I'm not a fan of bump strips, so they came off...

TO BE CONTINUED...

The alarm kept setting itself off every time it was locked, unlocked, doors opened, doors closed and strangely it seemed contagious as the wifey's started doing the same...

IMG_0744.JPG

This was sorted by resetting the alarm using the button under the bonnet by the drivers headlight. The problem came back again after a few months and we figured out using the black key (rather than the red) in the passenger door was a work around. (now changed complete lock set).

The required rally name tags...

IMG_0916.JPG

Time to turn attention to the wheels, silver and purple is dull. I suggested in the chat box purple car and white wheels and the opinion was firmly... NO. So I went ahead and did it...

72435_448665106427_577796427_5926272_3448569_n.jpg

With white wheels the next thing was obvious... onto eBay and get a white cover. Bargain £20 or so and turned out to be leather. Result...

IMG_1282.JPG

Proper heat shield was way tooo over budget so got some heat sheet and patched that on as exhaust was starting to melt the bumper to exhaust...

IMG_1320.JPG

A set of sexy rear lights were ordered, but when fitted, I didnt like them, so sold them on...

IMG_1315.JPG

By now, I'd got DodoJuice on as a sponsor and the outside was looking considerably better than when I was using cheaper products...

wax1.JPG

I think it's the little bits that make a difference...

Floppybadge.JPG

Back to the sounds, unfortunately I didn't picture a lot of the build, but the rear seats came out, a complete frame was built, housing amps and subs, 2 x 6x9's and even a storage cubby hole, covered in purple fleece. Looked good, sounded great...

IMG_2508.JPG

That takes us up til April of this year but since then, it's been manic and I'll update this another time...

On a roll, so may as well add in again.

We finished the rally having a few issues with brakes and the electrics - needed a rewire around the fuse box to jump start the lights, wipers, windows, roof, indicators etc. Didn't realise they werent working til we were caught in a downpour on the German Autobahn...

Since coming back (start of May 2011), I decided I needed more power. Due to my amazing scrounging, blagging and begging skills, managed to find a mechanic (Ash @ AWM Auto Services) who for an undisclosable fee and whatever was left of the donor, fitted in an RS2K engine.

The dash went from...

MK5

med_gallery_12389_802_733398.jpg

To MK6

med_gallery_12389_802_114184.jpg

The brakes went from standard to RS all round, and the ride height went from standard...

To low...

med_gallery_12389_802_893012.jpg

The sound chest came out during the rewire (when the engine was swapped) and hasn't gone back in due to weight issues. Stupidly, rather than upgrading the shocks when it was lowered, I left them standard and now it's a little bit happy to twitch on bendy bits of road.

I've come to hate the door cards, so they were next on my hit list...

185392_10150266013956428_577796427_7882754_813046_n.jpg

Fully alarmed and immobilised via a toad cat 1 so safe in the knowledge it'll be a git to nick.

Other bits gone on to my failing memory... 421 manifold heat wrapped, Decat, K&N, various little bits, 2 x heater matrix', now got carpet from the RS in, new fuse box x 2, wiring all set for front fogs should I want them, one touch window system, remote locking, replaced dated Ford badge rear with a newer shinier one, the Escort badge on back replaced with chrome "FLOPPY", 16V badge replaced with cabby club gel badge, blue LED rack for interior light and some other random bits thrown in / on as I thought of them.

It draws a little attention... This copper was most impressed (and I sold him my spare cabby)

261709_10150239151661428_577796427_7601614_6530802_n.jpg

The only problem I have at the moment is it will charge the battery (replaced twice now), but wont hold a charge more than 2 days. Checked the earthing points direct from battery and top of gearbox to body and they seem fine, the battery takes a charge, but I've got a permanent feed somewhere draining the system power. Also, I need to wire an amp / subs in at some point (possibly before Ford Fair, but not likely).

Thats me done I think... As and when I play, tweak, change, suffer problems, I'll update here.

Took for a thrash through the new 1.5 mile hindhead tunnel last night... The noise was fantastic.

I am indeed taking this one - seems stupid to bring one of the others. Hoping I can find a route that involves no speed humps or raised roadworks.

Forgot a couple little bits...

Xenon 55w bulbs blue tint, electric cossie mirrors as they're a little bigger than the standard cab ones and I like to keep an eye on whats coming up. Also they were white so I thought they set it off nicely. Oh, and they were a cheap eBay bargain.

The sound proofing on underside of bonnet has gone as it was rubbing against the engine and the heat shield between exhaust and belly of car has gone too. I snagged it on a speed hump and it needed replacing. I just took it off and didn't replace.

Oh, and a CB installed in there as well.

Pretty sure that's it now.

Cheers Mark. I'm just awaiting an ok for payment of the colour change from my (new) sponsor, but looking like it's going:

jet black from front bumper to (front of) rear wheel arch, with an Amber leading to yellow rear. A few logo's and bit of cool product placement too. Bonnet is going to really stand out in yellow/orange. Looking to have contrasting yellow with black highlights (front) and black with yellow highlights (rear) alloys.

Sounds awful (so did purple car / White alloys) but I reckon it'll look amazing.

Yeah, I like it. Shame about the watermark, but to get rid of that I'd have to pay and I'm tighter than the current police overtime budget.
