Respray

I know that this has been covered before, but not recently.

I have a 1984 mk3 which has not been driven in 8 years (for interest it fired up after putting on new battery) it is fairly solid but the front valance has a couple of holes and the battery box is solid but looks ruff. There is also a few bits of surface rust in different places. Altogether it is OK as has been in garage and was waxoyled.

The car is white and when I got underneath I wiped the dirt off and it is like new.

Does anyone know how much a good respray is (still in diamond white) and any good sprayers in Kent.

I am trying to work out costs to see if it worth restoring as it is far too good to contemplate scrapping.

Any ideas .

You pay for what you get. A cheap paint job will give you a cheap paint job.

Depending on how much prep work you're capable of doing yourself I'd budget on upto £1000.

The more prep work you do the lower the final figure will be. But beware you could have the best painter in the country but if your prep work is shit the finished paint job will be too.

Hope that helps.

I have been told elsehwere that £1500 is about the right price for a top notch job including bake, though I have been quoted £700 by one shop with no bake.

hmm....mixed opinions on resprays - my two-penneth, for what its worth

I'm currently having a bumper sprayed and the wings/bonnet cut in and its costing approx £1000. Now a respray obviously won't involve any cutting in but you're looking at £2k if you prep it yourself. which frankly isn't worth doing unless you do it in the paint shop and have all the right tools to hand - you're far better paying someone to do it who will spend time on doing it properly. but therein hang another problem - finding someone who is concientious enough to make a proper job of it and, if its not right, is willing to strip it down and re-start it.

but then i'm a perfectionist and i HATE orange peel.

Also depends on the paint used, how many coats of lacquer (if any) you have on it, how many coats of paint and how good the prep is inbetween coats - this is perhaps the most important bit, as any orange peel will show up if the paint isn't flattened down between coats.

its a nasty world, resprays!

going for a bit by bit respray.

just paid £180 for a bootlid and rs spoiler in radiant red 2 pack. i had stripped both and it was only the outside of the bootlid.

same fella will do a bonnet for £150...just got to find one now.

i got quoted 1500 for my respray. but it will be done well for that price. flat and smooth

that includes too new front wings as i hav two little bubbles on them and i hate rust so new new new, all the little dings taken care of, smoothed tram lines on the front and rear bumpers, all door shutters sprayed.

maybe delock it.
