  1. Thanks Chaz,

I am doing ACCA accountancy, its a law paper I've got to do and its proving to be a biatch!

    Well here are some pics.

These new plates will be the finishing touch when Tori is out of the garage

  2. Hiya all,

Its been a while, but its coming together slowly. But just a small update on the cars.

Got some original dealer number plates made up for Tori (MK4 escort). These look the part and add that finishing touch. Even styled in the old font too. Pics to follow.

And fitted some Ford front mudflaps to Tango (MK6 cab), to prevent stonechips damaging the paint on the lower wings and doors. Required modification to fit around the RS Skirts, but look the part fitted. Better than aftermarket ones.

Couldn't fit mudflaps to the rear because of the deeper RS bumper.

Got some exams in June so looking to get Tori on the road and MOt'd after this time. Hopefully she should be ready for the July show season onwards!

Also got to renew that membership.

    See ya!

  3. Ford made 3 versions of the airbox for the EFI

The one you have brought is not the right one for your model.

With the airbox you have brought, the hose on the top of the box goes to the ISCV and the hose on the side goes to the crankcase breather filter.

This airbox is for cars with the ISCV on the suspension turret.

  4. Hiya

Carb cleaner is available in aerosol cans and usually sold in motor factors/motorist centres. Unlike WD40, it evaporates after a short while. Most popular brand name selling it is WINNS.

The fact it evaporates, means you can spray it into the fixed part of the ISCV without having to remove it to drain out any fluid.

  5. I have had a similar prob with my 90 Efi.

On startup it revs high at 1600 rpm but when warmed up it drops down to the usual 900rpm.

Never could identify the cause. Never casued any problems in general driving so I just left it, as is.

  6. Hello

I had exactly the same prob with stalling at junctions etc.

Give the bit you removed a good clean and leave to dry.

To clean the bit attached to the inner wing, ideally use carb cleaner and leave it a while to evaporate. This saves having to detach this part from its inner wing bracket.

Then simply reattach the other bit. There is no gasket between the bits held by the two screws.

This is how I did mine and it worked a treat.

  7. Hang on a sec, before bidding on that auction....

There are two types of ISCV valve used in production.

Is your Idle valve on top of the airbox cover, or attached to the inner wing around the suspension turret, or attached to the inlet manifold?

If your idle valve is on top of the black airbox cover, than the ebay one is OK for you. If the Idle valve is not on the airbox cover, than the ebay one will not be suitable for you.

The ebay one is the original 'Weber ISCV'. Ford replaced it with a hitachi (metallic longer cylinder), because of problems with the 'Weber ISCV'. Hence the different versions in use.

  8. Tis, this is one of the simplest jobs going.....

So long you have the engine out of the car and upside down!

But seriously, they are a pain especially around the gearbox area where the gasket is easily displaced.

It took me several attempts to get this right but I used storong glue. Left it to set for a day.

Once set, offered sump to engine and sharply slid the sump towards the gearbox.

  9. Hiya

Starting with the rev counter.. EFI rev counter and MFi rev counter are different. A MFi rev counter should work, but show the revs at around 200rpm less than they should. On idle it will not register at all. Does the rev counter register on full throttle?

EFI clocks have the petrol gauge to the left of the Temp gauge. MFI it's the other way around. However, to complicate things, later MFI clocks (1988-1989) did have the petrol/temp gauge arrangment as per the EFI clocks.

There should be a Ford part number on the rev counter, give this to your local ford dealer and they will be able to confirm if this is an EFi or MFi rev counter.

The fact you are using an xr2i (CVH EFI) engine makes no difference as they are the same as as the xr3i (CVH EFI).

Are the senders themselves, and their wiring/plugs OK?
