DaveH
Hi there. when replacing the rear tie bars on a mk4 is it necessary to have the rear wheel alignment checked and adjusted? Thanks.
iansoutham
Technically yes. However, most tracking places are run by monkeys who do not know one end of a measurement from the other so will tell you that it is not adjustable. To adjust it, you need the appropriate washers as they are the shims to set it up. To do it correctly takes time.
DaveH
ok thanks, i was a bit confused because there is a torque wrench setting for the nuts at the wheel end ! and the washers are understandably very rusty.
Paul Grainger
Sadly Ian is absolutly right. Most don't have a clue or couldn't be bothered!!! It's not the torque setting that adjusts it. It is the position of the washers on the tie bar i.e. before or after the suspension unit as this moves its lower position. It's a bit primitive but makes a big difference especially to tyre wear. Good luck.
