Hi Ollie thanks for the reply I already have the gasket mate just needed to know if it needs any form of gasket sealer or if it seals itself when tightening.

Both the rubber and cork gasket for the sump dont need sealer as long as the bolts are all torqued correctly in sequence. This is a assuming the sump is in good condition i.e. not warped. Just make sure both surfaces are really clean. If you do have a cork gasket i'd get the rubber one as even when fully sealed they weep oil.

Just to add - how are you refitting sump? WIth the gearbox attached to the engine?

If so, because of the angle you need to position the sump to fit to the block, it's better to glue the gasket to the sump and offer it up to the engine.

You have to angle it towards the gearbox and gently slide it in to fit. This is where the sump gasket can displace and because of the gearbox, you cannot see the actual displacement.

Without doing so makes refitting sump much harder as the gasket will displace.

I've had the pleasure of fitting a new sump to mine with and I could not get it to refit without using glue.

On the other hand if the gear box is off the engine, it's more simpler and you can offer the sump straight up without any worries.

It can be a pig of a job, it took me 5 attempts to get it to fit correctly without displacing the gasket. I used genuine Ford parts which probably helped too.
