Well,

Hi, I'm Michael from New Zealand

and for some reason I have no idea why - my dad purchases a Ford Escort XR3i Cab, 1987 with the 1600cc CVH thing, with Bosch K Jet.

He got it cheap apparently.....

Basically, here's the cool story. we used it until it ran out of tax, discovered plenty of rust around the battery tray.... (which has been repaired and no longer leaks there)

Lifestyle changed, had to shift house.. he bought another car, and this just got parked up.

I have an E30 which I'm putting an M52 in it, long slow project - I had a daily E34 Touring, but I got a new job with a company car so I sold the E34 to fund my E30 project.

then I realised why don't I just fix this escort thing and drive that until I finish my E30?!

So, I attempted to get it started so I could put it in the garage... WHY IS EVERY BATTERY WE HAVE HERE SPARE DEAD?!

stole dad's e30's battery... started up first pop.. good sign, went for a thrash (the cvh is a cool little engine in the respect it loves to be thrashed) car died on the way back LOL, there's a plug, probably for the HAL generator or whatever it is under the distributor (fell out)... haha oops, (tach not working at all is a good tell-tale)

Anyway, now that it's in the garage I have to work out a few things

The temprature gage just seems to heat up and up and up, I wonder if the brand new thermostat is faulty? or the wrong one?

heater use to not work, blower would work on all speeds, but no heat would come out (perhaps a little lukewarm heat?)

few hoses here and there where I have no idea where they go.

this random vaccum thing, I'm sure it's for emissions though. will get some pictures up.

also, these cars are not easy to get parts for in NZ, as they were never sold here. We had this weird mazda 323 convertible, the cvh is way cooler than a mazda B6.

tl;dr

BMW fanboy attempts to fix an escort, subscribe for lulz.

Does anybody know where this is supposed to go?

What is this thing?

It was plugged in here, I have a feeling that it's emisisons, but someone has fiddled in the past before we got it.

also, this vaccum barb is missing, I have a feeling that the little box forced the distributor to change timings or whatnot, so I just plumbed the distributor into a spare vaccum line.

Right, that's the random big vac hose worked out, battery light now actually does something! and the little black capacitor (isolator?!) replaced as it had melted?! (they same as e30's part so I robbed one from one of my spares)

Tomorrows job

Hope like hell my battery will start it.

Change the oil

paint the boot foor in heavy duty paint... (it had 10L of water in there LOL)

hope like hell the car will stop just heating up and heating up

maybe work out why the heater doesn't work

Hoping to have it road legal after I get back from a job out of town so I can roll no roof everywhere, probably because the roof may aswell be down because it has that many holes in it
