Hi All,

As a few of you maybe aware i bought a very nice Se All Blue on a Q a few months back.
Now since i purchased it I've decided try to get its full identity back.
DVLA seem to think a age related plate is not a issue but I'm trying to get its full identity back ie its old plate!

I've taken plenty of images of part date stamps on numerous components and all are around the first 3 months of 1990....to top it off I've found the chassis number on the passenger side roll bar and when input with a vin checker comes up with the build day, month and year as well as other info.
I'm 100% sure I know this cars ID but wondering how many all blue se's were built which wasn't that long.
The number is completely untouched and once put in a vin checker comes up with build date of 22 march 1990.
All help would be grateful as its well worth the effort in my opinion.

Anyway here are my questions that need answering:

Although i Know the numbers on the passenger side roll bar are its ID are we all argreed this is fact?

Also im reading conflicting reports that on Se numbers ie 500, 601 and so fourth....Does anyone have a close call to how many made in to the UK in RHD?

And my Third poistion question is inbetween what months in 1990 on average were these registered?

All help would be appreciated and any further knowledge on this model as im about to send the relavent info to DVLA.

Many Thanks Neil :salut_gb:

I seem to remember reading this when i first joined the forum....so we will go with 600 as the figures are all over the shop and the club knows best

So out of interest Paul am i reading correctly that these greeted the dealers from september as mine was built in march of that year which leaves a bit of a gap?

That article is an extract from the Fast Ford All-blue buying guide article from July 2000.

I have the mag somewhere.

But that article is part incorrect and some of their facts are wrong.

Hi

Sorry for the delay, have been on holiday.

The all-blue started out in Germany, late 1989 as a "luxury model" special edition. Probably intended to go head to head with the VW Golf Cabrio.

The model was only introduced to the UK in late April/May 1990, to coincide with the 100,000th Escort Cabrio leaving the Karmann production line.

Unlike the German equivalent, only 600 of this model was introduced to the UK.

UK spec featured all options, bar the ABS and 2007 radio/graphic as standard equipment.

The UK model did not have the RS rear spoiler, whilst the German version did.

The All-blues were produced between Dec 1989 to May 1990. The majority would have been in the earlier period.

This includes the UK models which would have been sat on a compound for many months before being released for sale - Apr/May as earlier mentioned.

Despite only 600 coming to the UK, there is no unique numbering to these cars.

I have copies of both Fast Ford and Performance Ford from 1990 which show the original press release from Ford, and both articles state 600 models introduced to the UK.

The marker of the chassis number on the roll bar is not unique to the all blue, all escort cabrios's have this.

This number is the engine number (two letters followed by a five digit code). The engine number is the only part of the full chassis number unique to each cabrio..

Regards to your car:

I assume the date stamps you are referring to are the dates on the front wing and scuttle panel?

This engine number on the roll bar should also be on your engine cylinder block, is this the case, or has someone removed this?

Also, what about the chassis number etched by the drivers seat. Has this been removed on yours?

Regards to when these were actually registered, by either buyers or dealers, the period would be approx April 1990 to May 1991.

As there is a mix of G & H reg All-Blues about.

Again, hard to gauge, as they would have been registered as a escort cabriolet, xr3i cabriolet or escort SVP cabriolet on the v5. So nothing unique to indicate its an all-blue.

Some great information there allblue :salut_gb:

I have just noticed the post as i have forum laziness

Anyway the date stamps i have referred to are behind plastics i.e mirrors, bumpers hose's and so forth. Most are dated around the first few months of 1990 which i guess adds up to the build date. All wing numbers are also present.

The engine number has been removed but if you look closely you can make a slight outline of numbers which i might add later for you to have a look at as i was wondering if they was anyway to bring them out a bit clearer. The Sequence number is like i say still very vivid on the passenger roll bar in a white marker.

Its a strange car as it looks not more than 5 year old and deserves a age related plate but if its not to be that's fair enough.

I'm hoping DVLA can pull it up on the system through old VIN records and maybe source its original plate?...

I bet a few of these disappeared without never returning

Anyway allblue thanks for your input

Neil

Mine to was stolen recovered, but with ID intact in 1991.

I had to replace most parts as they had disappeared. I.e origina windows, fuel computer, mirrors, etc.

There was a thread on another forum talking about stolen cars and one mentioned his family having an all blue stolen nearly new by someone removing it with a crane from their driveway. Also mentioned that it was never recovered.

I guess all glass on yours has been replaced, along with front and rear lights? Otherwise the original registration would have been etched onto these by the supplying dealer.

This also was stolen in 1991 and the guy i bought it from bought it in 1992 minus its glass, hood and tags...he payed near 6k for it then from a breaker with 5k on the clock so i guess he got a bargain.

I spotted this a few years ago as he had been trying to sell this for literally years locally and on eBay but without luck.To be honest he wasn't arsed to sell it and said to me he will just leave it in his garage until he gets a sale....3 years on and after selling my series 1 RS i wanted another toy but had to be nothing to expensive so i went for a look, glad i did and wish i went the couple of years ago.

I just had to buy it as its one owner or technically 2 owners showed in its condition...odd mark here and there but it wont take a lot to make near buffty.

Considering it is on a Q it has been well cared for with a ton on history to back up its mileage etc

I'm just hoping i can free it of that Q....

He is still is the middle of trying as far as i know.

If is gets to messy i will just get it on the road as before you know it the summer will be upon us and it will still be garaged.

I will give it a month to six weeks from when i send the rest of my evidence off then i will bang it in for test :steeringwheel:
