welshlad
Anyone got a decent set up and if so what speakers/amp etc are you using? Thinking about buying one of the ///Alpine imprint head units with the imprint box and mic' they any good?? Obviously acoustically a material roof isn't too good for sound quality. welshlad
6x9,s in the boot now thats new. I'm going for sound quality more than bass all tho I don't mind low end car shaking bass I'm thinking infinity/kef or mb quarts in the front and a small JL audio sub all running of a 3\5 channel sound stream/genesis/alpine amp etc if I can find them cheap
Guest El87cabi
This is how i ran my car: You can fit 6"mids in the the footwell kick plates if you are prepared to cut the metal speaker type pod behind the plastic, you can either fit the tweeters on the kick plate pointing towards you or to get slightly better sound mount them on/in the corner of the dash near the screen. A componet set fitted in the rear speaker pods works well though be aware as there is no enclosure behind them the mid's will lose a lot of their sound, that said as i set my imaging right i couldn't honestly notice. A lot of people have done this but do not fit 6x9's in the rear speaker pods. As for sub's if you change your mind and decide to fit 1 then 1 single decent 12" 250w will do you as it doesn't sound like you want what is called overbass, i had a 250w alpine v or zr 12" with a kicker 120 amp. I found if you make full use of the closed boot air space pressure you are able to overrun? the sub and use the closed boot air pressure to stop the sub from over exhurting (can't think of the right word) itself and therefore keep the bass note clean and undistorted. Big believer in alpine, more there head unit's, components and amps rather than their subs, still running an 1998 Alpine 7939R ampless head unit with twin 4v preouts - makes a Boss sound mosfet amp sound like an infinity Personally i'd have 1 amp for components and 1 just for the sub, that said i have seen some very good 4/5 channel amps so really its down to the compatability of the parts u choose, all the brands you've mentioned are good, though instead of JL audio i'd go for a 12" kicker competition or kicker square. welshlad
7939r had one of them years ago when they were 500£, legendary head unit seen one for sale a while ago and was very tempted. Might get one of the newer ones tho with the imprint gadgetry as for 6x9s in the rear they were already there and my spare rear plastics are no good either . I high actually make a fibre glass pod for the foot well and do away with the crappy standard pods at least then I can give the speakers a bit of direction
Guest El87cabi
Defo go for the new gen alpine instead of the older 1's, easier to plug in ipod's etc plus the 7939r suffers from not being able to read cd's and cost me 140 to fix the last time, looking for somewhere to fix it again as the company who repaired it last time has gone, lol
welshlad
I'd like summat with a burr brown 24bit DAC, there's a f1 alpine on eBay he wants over a grand for it' I could use my c card but my wife would.d smash it over my head lol
Guest El87cabi
Lol, yeah always best to save the cc for those purchases that can be classed for repairs or safety - like a new roof or big disc conversion
welshlad
That's the one lol plus I'd have to insure the head unit instead of the car ha ha
welshlad
def buying a new headunit this week as for cost ill let my compulsive behaviour and credit card decide that lol still think its gonna be a alpine imprint headunit or a plain pioneer DEH P77MP they look plain and simple and not very appealing for theives but omg the sound quality is amazing from them
