Guest reary
Hi all This is the intro to my Mk5 cab. She needs absolutely loads of work but I plan on doing a full rebuild over time. The last owner had a prang and killed the passenger headlight, indicator and front panel as well as damage the bumper and bonnet. She is fitted with a full cossie kit but its beginning to show cracks where the kit is blended, hate the win mirrors though and if I am honest Prefer the RS2000 bonnet. The interior is at the minute like a swimming pool so until I can find the leaks she lives under a cover. The floor mats have been filed in the dustbin. The engine wont run due to a duff starter but worst of lt the wiring has been hacked to death and to be honest I wouldnt dare drive it with wiring this bad, its asking to catch fire. New engine loom needed, Someone at some point has done a lot at it but then someone at somepoint has battered it, Its had a crazy amount of owners but now the buck stops here. The alloys are sound but need repainting, anyone know what make they are? Thanks for reading Dale
gingergman
good project you got there mate, plenty to do! not a fan of the bonnet, vents look too obvious that there stuck on, and think the wheels are OZ?? quite a nice colour at the mo, you changing it? Guest Champy13
I have to agree with Gingerman, nice colour really does make the car good luck with the restore, im sure it will be spanking in the end
Guest reary
Thanks guys. I was thinking they look lke OZ rims. Believe it or not the vents are cut in but they really are not my thing, the Rs2000 bonnet looks much better in my opinion. The colour is what drew me to the car in the first place and if I can find a code I would really like to keep it. I did consider painting it white but would prefer to keep the blue. Same with the wheels I reckon stick with white just got a new contact that can blast them ready for new paint. The first thing on the agenda as soon as I get chance is check the roof out and stop or at least slow the leaks. I need to get a new boot seal and then reseal round the back lights cos water is getting into the boot too, The seats and carpets are going to my daughters house to be stored in her garage so at least they will not get damp damage. Once thats sorted the engine will be pulled to give it a good going over and then I can find out just how horrific the engine loom is. Suprisingly enough the shell is rock solid needing no welding. The last owner had the brakes all done for the MOT which still has approx 7 months left to run but I doubt it will touch the road in that time. A lot of work but worth it. Guest reary
A small update. I was lucky enough to find a genuine set of Carrello headlights for a great price on Ebay. How ever... upon arrival it turns out the delivery service Hermes had managed to smash the bottom brackets on one of the lights I have to admit I was really annoyed and could have glady made the delivery bloke eat every piece of the damaged light. To be fair to the Ebay seller is trying to sort it with Hermes as we speak and at the end of the day this type of thing happens A couple of days later a mate rang me to see if I would be interested in a set of Mondeo 5 spokes, The price he wanted was an absolute steal and I was thinking they were 15"s but they would be ok to use to stick on my cabby whilst my other wheels were refurbed. Well this morning I went to his house to collect them and to my amazement they are 16" that resemble cossie rims with all centre caps present and a set of lockers thrown in.. There are 3 pretty much new tyres and one thats lower but still legal, He even gave me the 15" spare which has a brand new tyre on and all for a hell of a lot less than I would have expected to pay for em. Now of course I have the question ... fit the Mondeo rims or stay with the others that are in the original pictures??? Opinions are greatly welcome and once decide they spare set will be sold of to fund other parts I need. Thanks in advance Dale
welshlad
I'd def keep the oz wheels the Mondeo alloys look nice but are too common
Guest reary
To be honest I am swinging more towards the OZ rims. I think I will use the Mondeo rims to keep the car rolling whilst the OZ's are away at the blasters the bung em on Ebay or something. Im not even sure the Mondeo rims will fill the cossie arches. Had a great find today whilst going through the boot of the car.... the paint code so I can keep the colour which has made my day
Guest reary
Well yesterday I got a bit of time so Thought I would mock the front end up to see if it all still fitted where its supposed to after its smack, and apart from some minor tweaking the answer is yes. Bare in mind everything is loosely fitted at this point. I still have to make some brackets for the bumper and repair some cracks but all in all not too bad. Back to the wheels, well upon closer examination the centre caps (on what everyone including me thought were compomotives) They have Team Dynamics stamped on them and looking through Ebay suggests they are the Race Pro 17". However they dont appear to have the text embossed round the outer edge of the rim unless whoever painted them filled it for some reason. Just for fun I tried one of the Mondeo rims on the car to see how they look. My decision is stick with the Compomotive/Team Dynamics rims they fill the arches better and give a better look so the Mondeo rims will be sold off/swapped for other parts. Guest reary
Time for a bit of an update. I have been dealing with this mess which I loosely call a fuse box And yes the wires are just twisted together as I found them when I dropped the fusebox. Most of them werent even taped up I have removed most of the shonky wiring now just have to make it all tidy. Halfway through the dash change as the old one was really battered, I havent finished this yet as I am still sorting wiring. The cossie copy bonnet was past help so has now gone, the cossie front bumper needs some repair so for now she is wearing a Mk5b bonnet and bumper. I will be cutting the mounts out of the mk5b bumper in order to fit the cossie bumper properly for both front and back. The bonnet doesnt look right its being replaced with an RS2000 bulge bonnet and eventually the cossie bumper will be put back on. The cossie bumper has been seriously bodged onto the car using self tapping screws so I need to repair the holes and crash damage too. I have also got to change the doors but am struggling to get the little grub screws out and have rounded some so will have to drill em out. Whilst the dash was out I found the nearside A post has has damage resulting in the hinges not being in line causing the wing to catch the door so its going to need a new A post. Good job I have a complete Mk5b for spares or this car would be getting broken by now. Not a massive update but and update non the less. Guest reary
Good to see you haven't given up mate, keep it up To tell the truth I did for a while. I saw the true state of the wiring and thought oh %$^£, Even listed it on Preloved. I kept looking at the car in my garden and thought " I cant sell it" and pulled the ad. Wiring is one thing I have never done on a car and seems a bit like some form of dark magic When I took a look through the haynes manual at the wiring diagrams I decided to give it a go. Its nice to see people still making the effort It will be so worth it when she is all done. I am really getting into repairing the car especially when I think how good she will look when done Loads of work to do and bits to buy but it will be done, may take a while though. The biggest influence is looking through the gallery on here.
Guest Phoenix83
I definitely get inspired and motivated looking through the gallery on here as well! Mines a bit tatty and needs some tarting up, its going to take a while and ultimately would love a respray but time and money are not on my side lol.Its great to see people still putting the love and time in, you are right it wont be a quick process but so so worth it in the long run! Its great to see people still putting the love and time in, you are right it wont be a quick process but so so worth it in the long run! It definately will be done I am just collecting all the parts I need at the moment, Just won a pair of brand new wing mirrors off ebay for £6 delivered. Next part to aquire is a new front panel well thats if I dont take the one off the parts car I have. The parts car is proving to be worth its weight in gold especially with the little parts that are hard to get. Your car looks real nice, I do actually prefer the mk3-4 shape but instead the mk5 came as part of a deal I did on a BMW and I wanted it the second I saw it. I reckon I will be spraying my mk5 as it costs too much for me to have it done at a bodyshop. Another Escort cab on the mend , keep updating mate. Sure will, tend to only work on her a few hours each weekend but it will get there. My spares car, a mk5b has a real good 1.8 Zetec 130 in it and the more I think about it I may well swap it in to mine replacing the CVH. It also has disc brakes all round so the rears will be going on mine.
Guest Phoenix83
Thank you. I was finding hard to source parts too but found a guy up the road braking a mk3 and mk4 cab! So im off to rummage soon.I need some new door cards, its had a mk4 interior and dash conversion and cant decide if I want to put it back to mk3 or leave it alone. Also not sure if I want a spoiler or not.We are currently restoring a mk3 fiesta rs turbo. So most of husbands time goes on that, although if I nag enough cab will get done sooner! Guest reary
I was pondering the idea of fitting a cossie lower spoiler on the boot of mine but I reckon it looks much cleaner without it. Mk4's look great with the Ford RS spoiler though, had one on my old mk4 RST which like a pleb I sold
Guest reary
For some reason the forum wont let me edit my posts... As promised a few pics of my car as originally built by its ex owner, and a great job he did of it too If the original builder/owner should read this and doesnt like me using the pictures then please pm me and I will remove them, it just seems right to add the full story of this car. Guest Phoenix83
Wow he did a good job! Makes you wonder why people sell after putting so much effort in!I have got a mk4 donner car now, it came with an xr3i spoiler so may put that on, also pulling all the electrics across! I'm quite excited!
Guest reary
Nice one, it will save you loads of time and money. The guy who built mine sent the car to have a zetec turbo fitted and got ripped off from what I can gather the mechanic took the money and vanished. After that the guy lost motivation and ebayed it as a project, I managed to get this info from another forum post made in 2008.

Guest reary
Ok so time for an update of sorts.... I have been really concerned about the nearside A post being a bit bent so today I pulled the dash out to take a good luck And this is what I found Even the door wiring plug has been replaced with the old rubber tube type because its so badly distorted, Along with being bent its all twisted and some bright spark has cut it to get the door to close and not even attempted to weld it and then hid the fact with filler. Unfortunately as far as I can see it has sounded the death knoll for this cabbie as its now way beyond repairing. Whoever did the cut and shut job needs a right slap because its just down right dangerous, if the car had been hit on that side it would just fold as the A post has no strength to it at all. I have pondered over this for a long time and have decided to strip the car and scap the shell. Now for the ray of light, I bought this a while ago off a mate It isnt a nice as it looks The reason my mate Matt sold it to me for parts was due to shocking wiring and a badly faulty fusebox. But he fitted a new battery tray and off side wing before deciding it was to be sold. I have never heard the car run and had already stripped loads of the car such as all window seals front lights and it has a really knackered interior and hood. A couple of days ago I decided to see if the fusebox from my MK5a would get it running and with the exception of needing run a switched live to the fuel pump and the front windows not working it runs......very very well Even the power hood works and its a 1.8 Zetec 130ps It also needs not welding. So now the plan is to put all of the parts from my MK5a onto the MK5b It will need a full paint job and I will have to put all the bits I stripped back on lol. I will have a road ready cab one day.......
