Guest Savage
As a lot of you read the BLOG I won't bore you again with the details of purchase to date, but I've sent Juliette scumrunner off to Colchester to have a transplant. Sourcing RS2000 engine, box, looms, suspension, ECU etc (plus install charges) was starting to look a little costly so I found a complete MK6 RS2000 for £450 and handed it to AWM auto's in Colchester together with my scumrunner cab (a 6 hour round trip but his reputation is outstanding). As he sends me scary pictures over the next week or so, I'll pop them up here together with other further work done. May as well get a thread in one place to follow whats up. Also worth noting is as he has to muck about from a 6 to 5b with wire splicings and other bits, he's going to convert to a MK6 dash as apparantly thats easier. He's also heat wrapping the manifold and de-catting it, and throwing in some Spax lowering springs and shocks. I am however both hated by him (as he is a purist of all things RS and hates ripping one apart - especially for an effing cab) and loved by him as he loves these sort of projects as he takes pride in these sort of things. Anyway... here goes... The donor: The scummer last seen: The new engine: RS as it stands now: As and when scary things happen / I get sent piccy's I'll update... Guest Savage
We have an issue. Not with the engine going in, but it appears that the RS2000 power bulge isn't just for display. Bonnet won't shut. There are 2 possible solutions to this. Option 1: find a MK5 RS bonnet, and spray it to match or option 2. Option 2 is the answer and you'll see what that is later. MarineIguana
Option 2 sounds fun
Guest Savage
Well, he's just figured out a way to make good. But option 2 was to cut out a section of bonnet which would free up a few valuable mm and vent in a Perspex viewing panel to show off the red top. But maybe get that done anyway at a later date. Yes the mk5 rs2000 bonnet was not just for display as the drivers side bonnet buldge was to clear the top of the timing chain cover the passenger one was added so it would not look like a rover220turbo bonnet. Guest Savage
I used to have a Rover 220 turbo - PCB board removed so boost was stupendous. That was silly silly quick I miss that car as a man toy.
Guest Savage
Here's some piccys that Ash has kindly scared me with recently: The compulsory - "look your car has no engine and beyond the point of no return" shot (also with his comment that he's a little worried at this point): "Here's your old engine": "Ooooooooooooooooooooooooh" I like this shot This is the one where we figured there may be a problem with the bonnet closing Shiny wheel bolts with spax shocks & springs... Sitting a little lower and firmer (and thankfully off the ramps) I'm glad he's doing the wiring... It all loooks a little scary. But somewhere in that batch is a CAT1 Toad system and remote central locking from the RS. And the most recent hiccup. The heater matrix is shot. But we have a donor. But the RS matrix is shot as well. Bugger. Having said all that, I have told Ash @ AWM that if I was a female I would let him touch my puppies as I'm chuffed with the progress so far. With a bit of luck, the car will start in a day or so, and be driveable in a few more days after that, and I get my baby home some point next week. Yay.... Guest Savage
It left the Ford factory with a 1.6 (still has it according to the V5), but it leaves the wifes 1.6 cabby and the last owner thought there was an XR2i lump in there whch would point to being the 1.8 105 as it's deffo not the 130... Having said that, I have no idea. But it started life as a "solar" edition with eleccy front / rear windows & roof, horribly uncomfy seats and a vile interior colour scheme. Now it's sporting a set of (admittedly old) spax shocks and springs, brakes changed to RS all round although I have been offered a cheap set of V6 ST mondeo brakes for it, MK6 dash been put in today, Si interior (front - no rear in there at all) remote central locking, cat 1 alarm / immob, and of course the RS2000 lump/box ecu etc... Guest Savage
I'll be in heaven when I'm within 100 miles of my car. It's in Colchester, I'm in Portsmouth and all ive heard is that video (but thats enough to make me realise I'm doing the right thing killing an RS). Yet another problem has cropped up in that the fuse box is shot and I need to source an rs2k one. It's 2 weeks til I hit france (9th) and I'm hoping everything will be perfect by then. Barreling through France with that noise will indeed be heaven

Well what was the word code on the ecu if it has one??? as thats the give away? also what no. is cast into it as the no. is on the back of the block 16/18?? just its deffo worth keeping as it is a complete set-up for someone like what i did and fitted it all to my mk4 as you got the loom n everything. Guest Savage
Quote from Ash on the "other" site as I have this thread running there as well... Full RS2000 conversion, now has cat 1 toad alarm, (yet to be certificated to this car) with remote locking, De cat, De aps'd, K&N cone induction kit, Spax lowered, RS brakes, what a fantastic toy, performance over my stripped out tin top is noticeable but still goes bloody well for a softtop, well worth a week of hard work, some blood and very nearly some tears at some points! Guest Savage
Cabbie club is on front wings, Tax disc holder, beneath tax disc holder and one under each rear light cluster. I still haven't heard it in the flesh (so to speak) - that's just a couple of the vids I've been sent by Ash (the guy doing the transplant). I pick it up Saturday lunch time and conveniently, the Dartford tunnel is on the way home. That noise is going to be well worth the £1.50 toll In terms of Chav's and their 5 door corsa's, I might lose a couple until I get used to it and get some sensible rubber on the wheels - apparantly if you plant it straight off in 1st or 2nd it just spins the wheels. Hence in the 1st vid you hear him take it easy up til a few K revs before burying the throttle as he launches up the road. But that sound is superb. Oh so nice. To give it a better look I've scrounged a bumper and it looks amazing... the only problem is now the cab is lowered, I think it will be too deep and have scrape issues. Once I get it back and see how much I've spent, may be getting Ady's SI bumper (the cossie lookalike one), but depends on skint factor. Guest Savage
Well, the conversion is complete. It drives amazingly and the effort and details that Ash has put in really show. If anyone is consdering a transplant and doesn't know where or who to go to... Give him a bell. AWM - (Ash) = Awesome. I truly recommend an AWM cabby to anyone. Guest Savage
Just so people can see the bumper Jack Tar was abusing me about on another thread, here it is. Probaly worth mentioning he's my neighbour so I expect abuse now he's got himself a cabbie too (well, he bought it and his missus won't let him drive it as it's HER car ) Unfortunately (?) with the car now being a full 100mm lower than it used to be and hitting every pebble, the bumper has roughly half an inch ground clearance so completely impractical and will never be fitted. For the record, I like it.
