Ive had this problem twice on the cabs, once on a 1.4 dash mk5 and the other on a 1.8 zetec mk6

on the dash:

the car had been standing for about 3months before I took it in, it was high, so I took it for a rag round the block and it cleared it throught.

on the mk6: it had been in use every day, took it for the mot and was high, tried giving it a rag round the block which didnt work. gave it a full service and changed the lamba sensor, still high (had it tested). change the cat and it was virtually down to zero.

hope this helps

If it's the efi you need the mixture adjusted as it is prob running to rich. I had the same issue. The mot station should of known this and a decent place would of adjusted it while on the machine. A garage will charge about £20 to do

i dont think mine is adjustable

it does sound like the cat and if you changed it 4 years ago and put a pattern part on its about the right time to change it again if your lamba is good it can only be the cat at fault

ok guys got the car fixed it was the cat after all now i have another small problem its the fuel gauge its not working properly I mean I know that when u accelerate the fuel gauge goes down and when u slow it goes back up but it is sometimes sticking to the same point what could that be

Shouldn't be going up and down as you accelerate. The mk4 has this problem when people change the tank sender or fuel guage in the dash as there are two types that must be matched. I don't know if there are different types between mk5/6 models. Maybe there is and one or the other has been replaced. Failing this i would probably change the fuel guage in dash as its easier to do than the tank sender.
