My Mk4 Engine Rebuild

me engine was tappy, smokey, used oil like fook if you booted it, bottom end was noisey, and it had a really bad issue reversing, but she has done 154k!!

so i decided on a full engine rebuild, i was tempted to go down the turbo route but in the end i just opted for a standard spec build as i just wanted a reliabe non tappy solid cvh because i use it as aa everyday car.

i didnt have the internet for a while or i wudda put loads of progress pics on here, so ill put a few up now.

just a shame it wasnt getting done in a warm garage lol.

as expected there was problems along the way, i lost count the amount of times the head had to be taken off lol, main prob was when the new cam went in it was made out of a too softer metal(so the engernering place said) so after running on idle for a hour or so after the first start up it became mega, mega noisey as it discentergrated in the head lol not good! so off the head came again for another new cam!

its just run in now as ive just done over 1000 miles!

a couple of pics of my old gearbox what was previously changed, we took it apart to see if it was worth rebuilding but the caseing was mullerd so i kept the worthey gears and the rest went in the skip!

after the engine was sorted i took it to powerflow for a full stainless steel straight through exhaust!

yeah id recomend head work wiv a kent cam or something, mine is good standard but could be faster lol. that last pic is 2-3 months old, just before i sold the blue one, it wernt fire damaged wen i had it, wouldnt suprise me tho if it was the same one coz it was well ropey!!!
