Guest dee1orean
Another small update had George helping me yesterday (Fri 19th) Here he is stripping out the old sound deadening: Couple of progress pics: Used some Thinners to strip any remaining glue residue from the sound deadening which soon had George and I high as a couple of Kites and giggling like a couple of loons, Thinners is great stuff lol!!! not it's intended purpose though LOL!! One of the students messing about, not the best pic but it somehow suits it lol! After stripping the sound deadening George and I went through the entire interior sanding out any rust scabs and treating with Kurust, it took bloody ages lol!! but it's another crappy but essential job ticked off the list, a list that seem to grow larger rather than smaller by the day lol!! Cab is getting better and better mate, most would have given up as it was in a bad way but its fantastic that its getting the treatment it deserves !!! Twas 2k thinners even worse lol. A lot of people ask me why I'm bothering and say I should scrap it and I get the,"Isn't it done yet?" comments all the time, but it's strange coz it seems more like it's their way of encourageing me. a lleast that's the way I choose to take it it's also possible that I am actually out of my mind PMSL!! Guest dee1orean
GRRR Charlzy!!! Time for another update following on from mine and george's blitz on the interior it was now time to stonechip the interior: Looks almost brand new As well as being quite a hard wearing coating, stone chip also has sound deadening properties so will hopefully replace that which was lost by removing the sound deadening pads... We'll see!! One of the worst areas of rust I had to tackle (what? there's more? I hear you cry!!!) was the passenger side rear arch, so I got stuck in today: I got out as much of the rust as I could, then applied Kurust liberally all over the exposed inner arch. One of the bonuses of working at the college is there's always odd panels lying around: We cut this from the drivers side front wing of a Corsa!! As it seemed to have the right profile. After trimming a bit more and coating with weld through primer: Welded in: Ground down, and sprayed with a bit of weld through to add a little protection, still needs a bit of filler work to be finished off but looks pretty good I reckon!!!: That's it for now, I'm hoping to have more regular updates from now on as the students finish at the end of the week so I should be able to crack on. TTFN!!! Jez.

Guest dee1orean
love this thread, cant wait to see the car finished!!!!!! looking good mate, had the same sil horror to over come as per the pics in my thread. she's going to look the nuts, keep up the good work it'll be worth it in the end. cheers mike Cheers guys, I can't wait to have her finished either, having a bit of a colour crisis at the mo, as much as I want to paint her Kandy Apple Red, my sensible head is telling me to go for a more standard colour that'll be easier to colour match should I have any bumps in the future, also a standard colour will be cheaper! just trying to find a red that appeals to me now... So was that the last major peice of rot to come out mate ??? Yes mate that (depending on your definition of major!!) is the last major piece of rot. If you look at the bottom of the "Just welded on" pic you should see a 1 1\2 inch hole in the sill and THAT my friend is the last of the ESSENTIAL welding to be done!!! going to wait until I can get her up in the air to do that. Then it's on to the Fun non-essential welding: Side repeater holes, Door Handles and locks, Washerjet holes in scuttle panel (maybe), Fuel filler hole in rear qtr, Fabricating the new filler neck mounting behind the rear light, Figuring out the hinges for the bootlid and welding up the recesses in the rear panel where the current hinges are attached. Then after all that it'll be on to paint!!! Planning on having her complete by september... fingers crossed!!!

Guest dee1orean
Hello Constant reader (Whenever Stephen King writes an intro to one of his books that's how he refers to his reader(s) useless info but there you go!!) Anyway, got another crappy but essential job done today so as usual here's some pics of todays progress. I showed you this pic previously: So after welding a couple of small plates under the roof mounting points to add a bit of strength, I welded up all the splits you can see in that pic. When I was removing the roof I snapped one of the bolts on the other mounting point so after grinding it down and drilling the bolt out: I decided that as it really didn't take that long I'd replace all four bolts. So after drilling them out I used Nuts to secure the new bolts in place: Whilst welding the bolts in place from underneath.... REALLY awkward LOL!! But this is how it looked once complete: MUCH Better!!! In a previous post I mentioned I was experiencing a bit of a crisis regarding paint. You may recall that the original plan was to paint her in House Of Kolor Kandy Apple Red: Which as you can see is an absolutely gorgeous color, however my sensible head won in the end due to the fact that if it's damaged by say a scratch on the door it's the entire side of the car that'll require painting not just the door, as it's near impossible to do a touch up with Kandy. Also the cost of a Kandy job is quite prohibitive. So I had a little look around for reds that appealed to me, I knew I didn't want a "Plasticy" solid red colour like a lot of cars have I wanted something Darker and Sparkly Metallicy. I found this colour, "Rover Nightfire Red" which I thought was quite cool: Quite like that Or a colour that I'm really keen on at the moment is Black Cherry: How sexual is that!!!! LOL I think Black Cherry is the one I'm going for What do you guys think? Anyway that's it for now until next time constant reader I bid you adieu, and thank you for reading... err... Constantly
Escort Cabriolet Club
ROVER Nightfire Red is a fantastic colour when its fresh/new, make sure you don't ger Firefrost Red, it the newer version, it is nice but its not as dark or vivid as Nightfire !!! That Black Cherry is similar to what I have on my Mk6, the Cossy Colour Jewel Violet !!! If your still not decided the concider the Colour i'm doing my Mk6 in when I get the funds together, its an MG Monogram Sceme colour, comes with a paint code too, its DARK FANTASY and its porn, check out the pic on my Topic Page below !!! Guest dee1orean
I did think about the Dark fantasy as it is a lovely colour but I didn't want to be a copycat lol!! The Black Cherry is £35 a litre so is a bit of a bargain too. I'm also considering ditching some of the mods like the door handles, relocated filler neck etc, as now the essential welding is done I want to get her finished and start
Escort Cabriolet Club
Your only a copy Cat if you do it second hint hint lol !!!
Guest dee1orean
Last Friday I twisted my ankle quite badly on the way to work, it's still swollen now, so I haven't been in much over the last week. Today was the first day I made it in and god did my ankle hurt afterwards. I didn't even do anything to difficult I just freshened up the rear metal seat back and lower base frame with a bit of kurust and hammerite. Some pics anyway, I think they look much better, and are usually overlooked. I don't trust Hammerite Smooth... I could still see the brush marks. It doesn't do exactly what it says on the tin. Guest steelcabby
that black cherry looks almost like the nissan skyline midnight purple in that pic. nice colour that. coming on nice;y mate. and blimey it had a fair bit of tin worm, good to see you sorting it out tho. hat off to you chap
Guest Ady
nice job on it m8, you decided on colour?
Guest murcus
very good job, and alot of work you have done! i think candy paints the new look, i know house of kolor have been doing it for years but jewel at 35 per litre, you cant go wrong my mate once painted his rs in white with blure and red pearls, but used gold pearl after the last coat of white basecoat to do stripes, and a heartbeat in pearl, so with half done in redpearl and the other in blue, when the sun was out looked wiked i think thats the look you are aiming for a transparent logo?
Guest dee1orean
Thanks for the positive replies guys. I'll be following up the seat backs next week by freshening up the recaro front seat subframes so watch this space lol!! I've got a couple of bits off my MR2 on ebay at the mo, a Spax lowering kit and a mongoose exhaust so providing they sell then a Kandy paint job may well still be on the cards Trouble is I was in town today and a lexus drove past me in this colour: Lexus matador red mica - How frickin gorgeous is that!!! Sometimes having too much choice can be a nightmare! Murcus: did you mean Jawel the paint supplier? they've got a really good range. The look I'm going for with the logo is as follows. As Kandy has to be painted over a silver or Gold Basecoat (I'll be using ford moondust silver with a bit of silver flake\pearl added!), though you can get good results painting over the same base colour for example Kandy apple red over a metallic red. So it's the silver base that will give the colour it's metallic look, Now, once the Silver base has been applied I'll make an XR3i Stencil for the wings and a Cabriolet stencil for the bootlid and spray them in basecoat black, then when the Kandy Apple Red is applied as it goes over the black it will pretty much disappear leaving what should look like a hole or a logo buried in the paint... Fingers crossed!!!
