  2. their prices have gone up a little. Hi, Mk4 Escort supplied and fitted in vinyl £595.00 total, the fitting takes about 4-5 hours. Regards Vic. 3. i took the head off. somehow there is a piece of a drill bit in the inlet manifold! a piece has broken off and was in cylinder number 4, another piece in cylinder 1. head and pistons are chewed up, it has badly scored the bores! have sourced a spare engine so am in the process of swapping them over, went from followers not pumping up to a dead engine in no time
  4. hi the original cam was worn, i swapped the cam and followers from another head i have, and it has the same problem. im guessing there is some sort of a problem with the oil ways thats dropping the oil pressure to 3 of the followers when the engine is hot? i have swapped all the followers round today and its doing the same on those 3 locations, no matter what follower i put in there.
  5. nope not done a pressure check. the noise comes from the top of the engine so im assuming its the followers, it happens when the top of the followers are down, im guessing its the cam hitting the follower as there will be loads of play in it then. the sump has not been off. i have just swapped the followers round, and its still the same 3 locations that have the problem no matter what follower i put in there. am going to fit the spare head i have and see if that sorts it out.
  6. i just tightened them down, with each piston at tdc so no pressure on lifters from cam. didnt flush it out. confused as its fine for 15 mins or so then they lose the oil pressure on the same 3. if it was blocked oil ways i would expect it to do it all the time, not as the oil gets thinner? thats why im wondering if its the bores of those 3 that are maybe worn so when the oil thins out they loose pressure.

  8. this is one of the good followers and one that has lost pressure once the engine warmed up.
  9. when the engine is cold its fine, once it warms up 3 followers lose all oil pressure and start banging. on removing the cam cover i can see the top part of the followers has dropped. if i remove and refit the rocker arms they go back to being fine and working. i changed all 8 followers and the cam but its doing the same on the same 3 locations in the head, inlet on 2, exhaust on 2 and 3. i have dropped the oil and tried 3 different oils, all the same, the thicker the oil the longer it takes for them to loose pressure. could this be the bores are worn and when the oil warms up it becomes too thin and cant build the pressure up? could it be anything else? i have a spare head but its from unknown origin, i'm told its a good one but there are no guarantees........ the sump is also rusty, so will need replacing. is it worth getting the spare head skimmed, swapping heads, getting a new sump and fitting that, or i can see a couple of efi cvh engines on eBay for £100-120, would that be a better option? the car has done 128,000 miles, last owner has had it since 1995, he did 1,500-2,000 miles per year according to mot web site. servicing does not seem to be a strong point of his, it was running fresh water with no antifreeze as there was a slight leak to the pipe from the top of the thermostat housing. i did the head gasket when i got the car back in february and noticed the block has almost no wear in the bores, there was no noticable lip at the top of the bores. before i rip the head off again is it worth it or am i better off dumping the engine and dropping a second hand engine in it?
  10. hi i have a 1990 efi xr3i,with a slight misfire. there is a grey box on top of the coil pack, i have been told this is an ignition amplifier. if i unplug this the car runs the same! i have used a multimeter on the wire and its showing 10 ohms resistance to earth. there are a few cracks in the wire, there is only 1 wire connecting to the unit, and its bolted to the metal cage the coil pack is mounted to. could the unit be faulty and that is causing the misfire? the car is drivable, but you can feel the misfire at constant speed.

depends where you list it, there's a couple of cars on eBay that don't look perfect but they want close to £5k for them. there are some on autotrader for £4k, there's others out there good clean examples for £1k. the car is worth what someone will pay.... less than £1k with no mot, your in project territory there, £500 land. with an MOT its more valuable, with mot your probably looking at £1500 to £2000 depending on the body etc. I cant see the £4 or £5k cars selling, they are probably just a chancer trying to cash in on the tin-tops higher value,
  14. mine does exactly the same, had leads, plugs, coil pack, air temp sensor, checked cam timing, was out slightly, that improved it but its still there, im guessing i don't have the timing spot on yet.
  15. finally traced the colour, im told its Amalfi blue. got someone mixing up some to spray a replacement bonnet
  16. hi my headlights don't work properly.i have main beam on the off side. if i move the white relay to the next slot i have main beam on the off side. anyone know where i can get one of these relays as im assuming it should have 2? when i got the car a month ago there was a piece of wire jammed in the fuse box shorting the ns and os headlight fuses. its a 1990 xr3i efi. can anyone confirm there should be 2 white relays in the back of the fuse box? if i am lucky is anyone selling one of these relays?
  17. 1990 xr3i cab, 127k, 3 owners, last one 21 years. £925 from eBay]. cost me £400 + a bonnet, i got every mot and even the original bill of sale for it. ford stereo cassette and equalizer still fitted! if i run it 2 years it must sell for more than £1500 so cant loose
  18. Zygott (Simon) Merseyside. 1990 xr3i. totaly standard. 3 owners from new, last one had it for 21 years, DVLA says it has done 2k per year since 2008. got it cheap as needed clutch, exhaust and bonnet.
  19. just stripped it off mine whilst doing a clutch, brakes feel better now.
  20. it has 90 spec xr3i seats. and the 14inch cosworth style alloys.
  21. i have bought a 1990 XR3i cabrio. the colour code is either UAO or UA0. i can not trace this colour from any charts.
  22. stunning machine, a credit to its owner.
  23. eBay are a lot more expensive than other places. been looking for a mk4 for a couple of weeks. 2 or 3 rolling resto projects have sold on gumtree/autotrader for less than £1 but there are cars on ebay for double that needing work, i have only waited 25 years or so for one so a few days more wont kill me, wife might depending on how much i spend...
