thats crap mate, rubbish, ive got a 1200 watt 10 inch in my boot, and you can hear it fine, and for extra bassiness stuff the box with roof lagging, it'll deepen it, if your really worried, under the carpet on the rear shelf, cut 2 holes, out, i used to have 6*9's sat in there, but took them out and just left door speakers all round, and it sounds amazing roof up or down, get your self a vibe1200 with a built in amp, you wont be dissapointed and they'll fit in really easy,

hi all this has to be one of the hotly debated topics ,,,,,,,

now where to start ,,,,

what type of bass do you want ? bass you hear or bass you feel

bass starts at 1000hz and go down to 20hz subsonic

in a cab the best type of bass is low ,, but rattles the car to bits lol

and is not cheep to set up ,,, but will sound good with the right sound deadening and insulation

you are putting a sub in a tin can ie boot it will always sound muffled even cutting the shelf wont help that much ,,,

if your just after something to sound reasonable then best thing to do is two layers of carpet in the boot or a mdf floor and carpet make sure you got noting that rattles ie number plate ,, stick it on with double sided tape if you can get some sound deadner or foam and do behind the boot side panels ,, will help

always face the sub to the back of the car ie towards the boot not the back of the seat ,,, and make sure you have 12inc between the sub front and the panel for the air to move

well thats a start hope that helps ,,

Good advice there Tony, just have a go with your back seat down Benny and listen/feel the difference when you can generate the base in the cabin.

Dont cut your parcel shelf XR3i, its steel for a reason mate.

Best thing to do is to have a listen yourself, if your HU's fitted and the sub-out is hanging around get down to a dealer and listen to one of the alpine/pioneer underseat jobbies, if these dont float yer boat, borrow a mates sub/amp and lash it into the boot. Buy the stuff that you like the sound of yourself, its your ears that count. Only buy from pictures-ebay-websites once you know you like the sound of the thing your buying.

my holes were already there, and there is nothing wrong with the way mine sounds, im not gonna win an comps, but it sounds great, balls to checkin all the hz and all that, no need to bother, my vibe1200 sounds great, its bassy with out makin the car rattle, yet some tracks do affect you eyeballs a bit? haha, been fitting stereos in cars for the last 15 years, you can get really technical for comps and stuff, but for everday usage, and if you dont havea lot off pennies it can be difficult, do what you can with what you got.
