Vincygav
Only thing I know some people fitted the diesel Escort starter motor. It is bigger in size and would be a tight fit, but it fits. What is wrong with the standard starter. Guest username
Ours does suffer randomly with heatsoak but it's only ever cranked slowly, never refused to start Been thinking about dripping a bit of oil into the starter's bearings as I saw how much faster an old inertia motor spun when the bearings were oiled and it was the difference in that case between buying a recon starter and it starting a rebuilt engine with ease. Also make sure all the heavy wiring is in good shape and the terminals are clean and tight including the engine earths, had a 205D that used to need the gearbox earth bolt whacking with a hammer when hot, till I took it off and cleaned it... Vincygav
Also check the switched live wire from the fusebox to the starter motor, the whole thing. Mine played up and replaced two starter motors thinkgins it wasn't good as as always getting hot start problems where the starter wouldn't turn, even changed battery twice because of it. Over the years they tend to create more resistance, worse when hot.
