Rodney
I can push my steering wheel up just enough to make a small knocking noise, movement is no more than about 3mm. Two garages have checked it out by part dismantling and say it is perfectly safe. They both say the only way they could correct it would be a complete new steering column! It doesn't move with normal use you need to push it up - I only noticed it when pulling myself up on the wheel trying reach something. Anyone else got this 'feature'? RScab
Do you have the adjustable steering column?

RScab
Just had a look on Microcat (Ford parts Software) shows a column bush but no part number - so may be all in 1 with the column duz show a tolerance ring tho sits @ the top of the column worth changing that first see if it solves the problem

Rodney
I have a Mk6 with the same column and also have a small movement up wards and a very small movement pulling the steering wheel straight towards me. The MoT inspector says it will be a fail next year. Replacements are no longer available and buying a second hand one is a gamble - it could be just as bad once fitted! Are there specialist companies that will refurb them or are alternatives made. The car is 100% otherwise but I now have the prospect of scrapping it after owning it for 22 years.
