Guest Dick19666
Hello again, Bought a 1996 cabby yesterday it has done a documented 44k,according to the service history it had a cambelt change at 20k this was 10 years ago. So to my question at last. Does it need changing again I'm assuming it's every 10 years regardless of mileage.. So Contacted fords today for price of cambelt and waterpump change and was quoted £569... I only paid £875 for the car!!!!!!!!!!! Added waterpump as I thought while it's being done it won't hurt "how wrong was I" Is this a fair price and if not what should I be looking at paying in in essex btw. Thanks all and sorry if its a dumb question...Rich
allblue
Yes needs changing. Rubber perishes with time. The cambelt should be changed every 5 years. safe bet to change to water pump too. I had mine done by independent garage, was 250.00. This was this year.
StuDaBear
Water pump is not driven by the cambelt on this engine, so you could chance not replacing it if its behaving itself, but if you ever did have to replace the pump then the labour is gonna be the same again due to its location. A local garage should be able to do the cambelt for a lot less. Whereabouts are you in the uk?
