After talking to Ian 71 about his white mk5 I am thinking of going down the same route but I am not in a desperate hurry as my 1.6 runs v v sweet and I have spent some money on it will now ask a few basic questions some May random stupid or daft but I only have a basic mechanic knowledge my car is a 1993 L reg 1600 zetec lump I know I would have to have use the ecu of the doner car would this be a plug and play in my car Or would I have to modify the rest of the loom would the downpipes be different and are the engine mounts the same on my current lump I have the rocker cover colour coded would this bolt straight on to the 1.8 it looks the same but are there any internal differences am I right in saying this is referred to as the silver top engine what is the latest escort I could use as a doner my theory is I am better buying a donner car then removing every thing then I know I have what I need how do you prove you are buying the 130bhp lump I do have a good mechanic but he said he needed the basic facts first sorry for the long list thanx in advance mark

Forget the 1.8. Go for a 2.0 from a mondeo

Exactly the same process just more power at end.

Zetec block shape is the same for all variants so use your existing mounts, downpipe and manifold if you want. 2.0 version may flow better.

Ecu system the same just different map hence your standard loom will be fine.

ST170 engine is best but more expensive and you need omex or other ecu to run which adds £ 1500 to price for converting.

You can probably get a whole mondeo for £ 300 to use

Hi mate done several conversons using the mondeo 2.0 engine you need to change the sump and oil pick up pipe for the escort one also the water pump as the mondeo pump works bacwards as well as the mounts exhaust manifold and down pipe put it in plug it in change the ecu and away you go but make sure you use the mk1 mondeo none pats parts

The pats system is a pain me and my son did one on his mk4 escort van finished up converting the escort mk6 loom to fit it now runs using all the mk6 injection /ignition system and it goes like stink still has working pats alarm/imobiliser as well you need the loom including the the keys/key reader from the ignition switch and dash clock as the pats needs to see the led it has built in it

Or you can fit the engine in your car using your loom and bits it will run but you will need a early none pats ecu to get the correct power from it
