Guest damsie4
Hi I have recently become the proud owner of a 1996 1.8 Ghia Cab. I have had loads of Fords, but love the charm of the cabriolet. I have been impressed with a lot of the extras on the 1.8 Ghia. I used to have an LX hatch many years ago, which has a very handy electric boot release which was opearted via a switch in the main cabin. I have had a good look around my Ghia cabriolet but can't seem to find one. Were these not fitted to the cabriolets??? Many thanks
sifitz
hi its because its got 4 electric windows and were the switch for the boot release fits into this same place as the rear window switches in the centre consul so there is no room for the boot release
Guest damsie4
Hi, Thanks a lot to sifitz for his prompt reply! Do you know if the wiring is there lurking underneath or not!? Cheers

Vincygav
No, the reason it did not have a boot release was because if you left the roof down with the car locked as some people would have done. Then people would have had access to your boot. So no mk5/6 Escort Cabriolet had them standard hardtop models had either a cabled boot release next to the drivers seat or and electric release button by the handbrake. Also the cabriolets had a lockable glovebox for this reason where most of the mk5 Escorts did not have one. I have fitted an electric release from a mk5/6 using the boot motor and wired a relay so that it works with my alarm.
