Guest alex.t
Yeah i knew the wheels are hard to come by so i just kept looking and stumbled across these on gumtree, not too far from where i live either. Just persevere you should eventually find some. Also it looks like i got the exhaust system for the later model of cabrio. Does anyone know of any easy solutions to make it fit? Guest alex.t
I also found a nice little chip on my crankshaft. I am starting to run out of things to do this week. I need to get hold of a bush removal tool so i can sort out swing arms and antirol bars.

Guest alex.t
Another small update for you all. Got home for Xmas leave and had a nice pile of gifts waiting for me. Head has been cleaned and skimmed Block cleaned(not the best of job around the cooling jackets) and honed along with new piston rings caps for the block track rod ends petrol cap door handles nice orange indicators and oil pan Flow-flex bushes As I had some time off so give around the cooling jackets a good dig out and the amount of crap that was left in there was unbelievable, as you can see from the state of the floor. I also give the outside of the block a lick of paint. I got myself to a local motor factors later in the week to pick up my re-ground crank shaft along with bearing cases. Whilst I was there I ordered a head set, sump set and a cam shaft. And thanks to some 1 off the MK4 escort Facebook group I got hold of new cam followers, arms, water pump and oil pump. I managed to get another thermostat housing that is in better condition than mine thanks to Dwayne. Up to now I have spent several hours cleaning the internal parts that I will be re using, I am nearly done with only 3 big bearing cases and the valves left to be cleaned. So Engine wise I am still waiting on a Dipstick tube to turn up, Need to order some new valve springs and finish cleaning the internal parts and I can then start rebuilding. Dwayne has also sorted me out with a full S2 Rst body kit and spoiler that I need to drop off at the body shop. Looking on to the suspension I managed to find a way to remove the bushes without a special tool, using a vice and 3 sockets. Ordered a full set of Flow-flex bushes to replace the old ones. When they arrived they were not labelled up at all in the bag just separated from each other. After a while scratching my head I managed to work out where they all go but the bushes for the inner rear swing arm seem too large, I am not sure if this is a misshap in the order or if they are supposed to be a really tight fit and need pressing in to place? can any one shed any light on this? And finally for a body work update. I popped into the body shop and up to now all that has been done is the car has been sand blasted, Front wings cut off along with patches on the rear arches cut out and the battery tray. All new panels have been ordered and arrived apart from the front lower cross member which is why they have not preceded any further as this is the first bit they want to replace as it holds the front end rigid. If they have not received it by mid January the order will be cancelled and they are going to look in to patching up the current one. Would be nice to have the car on the road for the summer so I hope they get a move on with it.

Guest alex.t
Got hold of a 2nd hand dipstick tube as i snapped mine. Toke me about 2 hours to get it in place as it just seemed to be two wide. Should input some joint compound or anything on the mating surfaces or. Use some sort or sealant arount the base? Everything. Apart from 1 yhing is ready for the block to be re assembled. And everything for the head is all ready. All i need is some cam lube and i cam re- assemble.

Guest El87cabi
Good work so far mate, you've done a hell of a lot, should be spot on once your finished. If you've not found this out already as the sportex system is for the efi easiest way to sort the matter is buy the sportex tree branch manifold, you may need to use an rst gasket btw. the only differences between the 2 systems as standard is slightly different manifold with heat shield on efi, efi has a longer downpipe and also had a mid box, both completely daft if you ask me as the mfi setup with downpipe to system join visible from the top of engine bay was far better (not to mention the mid box was a waste of space) Know this for fact as i'm playing the same game but in reverse, was running an mfi Magnex system with standard mfi downpipe and manifold on my efi, all i needed to do this was the one head to manifold gasket ford no longer produce. As i've now bought a Sportex tree branch manifold i've decided to most straight forward way of slapping it together is to shorten the ss Magnex then mate it to the sportex manifold/downpipe. Not happy to cut the ss but either that or some way too tricky cutting and re-welding of the downpipe. Best of luck with the rebuild n keep posting pics as the work continues

Also a small update. Last time I was in the body shop .................................................. The shell was in the exact same position They assured me it would start moving along as soon as they have sorted a mini out that had been in longer than mine. Since it is coming up to to 12 months in September that they have had the car and all the have done is blast it, cut the rot out and gather new parts i am going to keep popping my head in ever couple of weeks until they get sick of my face Other things I have been up to. The bottom end of the engine is fully re built and the cylinder head is 90% done. All I need to get is a woodruff key for the new cam shaft and refurbish the rocker cover then I can bolt the head to block and refit all the ancillaries. I was original going to get the gearbox reconditioned but at the moment I am in two minds as before I stripped the car their was no signs of any problems with the box and it has me thinking is it worth spending £300 to get it refurbished or just clean the outside up, paint it and put it back in. Last week I also started to tidy up the rear hubs. before After sitting in some anti corrosion solution and after a bit of hammerite straight to rust All that is needed for the rear hub is: New drums new brake shoes and fitting kit new servo and wheel bearing kit Ill try to get an update a bit sooner than 5 months time next time round
