Value Advice Please?

Hi everyone,

a short while ago I bought an escort cab as a bit of a project to do with my son. However my circumstances have changed so :-

a) I no longer have time.

 It is above my skill level (which is low anyway).

c) If shes the model I've been led to believe she is, I've been advised to spend some time and money on her, neither of which I have.

So, I think it fairest to let her go  At the moment I don't have a V5, but when I got insurance (from 3 companies) quotes, the reg came up as an Escort Cab Tennis, 1.6i.

Shes been stored for 4 years, the roof in in good condition, though the electric 'drop' doesn't work, alloy wheels are in very reasonable condition (all 5 matching), body kit is in good condition. The interior needs a really good clean, the top part of the back seat has come away abit and the split in the seem of the passenger bolster, but with a good clean they are in pretty good shape, oh and they are half leather recaros. In the engine, I have a new battery fitted, a new fuel filter, oil filter and plugs to go in (I wasn't sure of which air filter to get at the time). The distributer cap, rotor arm and cam belt all look as if they were fitted not long before she was stored.

A friend will be doing a compression test for me soon, just to make sure but the exhaust manifold gasket is blowing and there is no heater motor.

She has abit of surface rust, but on the whole she has loads of potential for someone with reasonable skills.

I'll try to get some pics tomorrow, but could anyone give some advice as to a value please and ideas of where to advertise (apart from here) to reach enthusiasts.

Thank you all very much!! I will be sad to see her go, as we had great plans

I paid £500 for my 89 tennis nearly 3 years ago with no t&t and that's also a project. ive also just brought a 90 plate cabby with full rst running gear, loads of trick bits and a new roof for £800 with no t&t as a project, more than I wanted to spend but its got what I want. hope this can serve you as a guideline. glwts.

Thanks for the advice Dan, abit reluctant to sell, but I have neither the skills or equipment to do the job myself, or the funds to pay to get it done professionaly.

Price all depends on if it's a runner or not... usually T&T won't bother too many people who are after this sort of car as long as they can see it running and give it a once over...

eBay is always an option, there are always plenty on there with a reserve price so the seller gets what they want for it... it's also a good place to look at prices and gauge what it could be worth against others on there.

No problem Lee...

Sorry to hear you're having to reluctantly sell her... make sure you set your lowest price and stick to it... if it's stored correctly (out of rain and hand brake off for a start) it won't actually lose money, or barely any... the MK4's are becoming rarer, especially limited edition ones...

So don't take no bull s**t from some eBay expert trying to knock you (and they will) stick to your guns on the price you realistically want for it someone will buy it...

Good luck... hope you get a chance to own one again in the future.

Thanks mate. I'll get one again, but will wait till I have more cash and get one either finished, or close to. :banana_dance: you're right that folks want them for nothing, seems like with many cars these day, they're worth more in parts than whole  Will be getting her for sale this week and see how it goes. Thanks again to everyone on here!! One of the friendliest forums I've been a member of

Shameless plug, but if anyones interested I'm involved with https://www.facebook.com/groups/ScoobybitsSubaruClubCornwall/

Cheers, Lee
