Guest tardsrock
does anyone know what engine would fit straight in?the rs 2000 14 or a zetec 2.0l.my car is a mk5b escort cab 1993.it has an asthmatic 1.6i zetec (90 hp) at the moment.i have'nt got much money and i dont need loads of power, just enough to have some fun.i do like the idea of the rs2000 engine as its 150hp as standard and i need a reliable engine.(when i was 17 i had a mk2 rs2000 and im gutted i sold it,i do miss that car)but i see loads of zetecs out there and wonder what would be better,i wont be modifying the engine apart from a k&n and exhaust.if anyone out there can help i would be very grateful
Admin Ollie Posted July 6, 2013 Admin Share Posted July 6, 2013 Yeah rs2000 engine would be a good installation to do Take a look sure there's a few been done on here Start a thread if you do decide to do the transplant Ollie
Guest Kelly Jeffery
a 2.0l zetec would be your best bet as lighter and bits are cheaper and no another wouldn't just fit straight in you would have to change a few bits
Guest reary
I know you said 2 litre but have you thought about fitting a 1.8 Zetec 130 ps? Not an RS2000 by any means but they can be picked up for sensible money and if you find an escort cabby being broken that has one fitted as standard you could get the wiring too and it will just plug in. Fairly quick engine to have some fun with and can be tuned too.
Guest Milkey
Here's a pretty good guide that I came across whilst looking into the zetec conversion http://passionford.com/forum/pictures-video-and-photoshop-forum/246237-cvh-to-zetec-conversion-for-under-200-quid-guide.html
Guest tardsrock
thank you for your replies lady and gents,i think i'm swayed to the rs lump due to its ease going in.when i do this(just a bit more money to go)i will put up pics of how it goes(i tried putting some up last night of the car and failed repeatedly, haha.i am a computer retard).as kelly mentioned they do weigh more, but that does'nt really matter in this case.good point though, and i am a sucker for a 2.0l. to be continued.many thanks again for the link too.v v helpfull . to be continued . . . Vincygav
Go for the RS2000. many always go on about 2.0 zetec, but it is still not straightforward and would require more to make it work. The talk about it being lighter, it is not that much lighter. Besides standard power from it is about 20 down on the RS2k. Plus the RS has higher torque. Guest tardsrock
cheers escort si 130!cool info.looks like you done the mod yourself, how was it?nice cars by the way
Vincygav
It was nice, made a huge difference. Although it was best in the Orion as the body was just a touch lighter and stiffer. The RS engine is more torquey than the zetec, which helps with the heavier cabby.
Guest IanA
I've been tempted by these crated 2litre black top zetecs for £800 you see around. OK- not RS power but brand new...
