Indicators For Morette Headlights

Hi All,

I've just picked up a set of morette headlights for my 88 Cab. They're the type that cover the original front indicators and as I got them 2nd hand they didn't come with the rectangular units that are usually included with them. So my question is: Does anyone know of any other suitable indicator units I could use and where would be a good place to mount them without butchering the front bumper too much?

Thanks,

Dan.

Hmmm been thinking the same myself, But! some one has installed orange bulbs inside the outer light units (like the side light bulbs) so look like mine will flash in the daylight , whether they would pass a mot i dnt know  ill add a pic when i dig them out

That sounds like a good idea, I've heard of people modifying the units to include an internal indicator before. I've been wondering what would/wouldn't pass an mot myself - I guess before I commit to anything I'll ask the guy that tests my cars what he thinks...

Think I might have found the solution, I've found a front bumper called a "preditor" - I know, that's spelt wrong but that's how it's spelt on the site lol - Which is basically a 90 spec bumper with a blended in splitter and has indicator units built into it already. Seems good value to me too at £250 delivered?

You reckon that's pricey? I didn't think it's too bad. If you factor in what a set of units will cost me on their own - Say £25, Then the cost of a decent splitter (Which I want to add anyway as the front end looks high and I was thinking of trying to get hold of the RS type splitter from an earlier bumper and having it modified to fit the 90 spec bumper) £150? Then I'd need to have the bumper painted anyway - £50. I'd be into over £200 anyway. It is made from "top quality" fibreglass - which I'm not massively happy with but then I don't intend on hitting anything! lol

ooo i like the idea of the strip lights  unless the internal indicators are legal

The only thing with the strip lights may be that they could be the wrong wattage? If they aren't 21w then the relay won't recognise them and the lights inside the car will flash away like mad like they do when you have a bulb out?

Hmmm, see what you mean, I haven't received mine yet (ebay purchase) so I can't compare mine to yours, I'll have a look at mine when they get here and post some pics up.

My step son bought sme morette replicas for his mk2 orion the other day and wasn't sure what to do about the indcators then I found these...

And our thoughts were to mount them at the bottom of the light unit between the 2 round lights. Despite their small size they're actually pretty bright, I fitted a pair to my bike and they look like this when they're lit up

They're even brighter when you're looking straight on at them

They look pretty smart. Will they flash away like mad when they're on though? I've heard that if they're not 21w or equivalent then the relay doesn't recognise them and the lights on the dash flash really quickly as if there is a bulb out!
