Hello everyone im kinda new on here and I joined up because im looking to get a escort cab very soon. (As I have started to fall in love with them)

Well my plans where to sell my 125 Yamaha bike after I have mot'd it (it runs out in July and cannot put it on until next month) and then buy the car..

well I have seen a 1.6 esc cab that I like and its the only one I have seen that has very cheap insurance for me.. It has been sprayed to cover scrapes and abit of rust and from asking questions it just needs a tidy up of body work. (does look nice tho) I have also been told that it has been sat since Christmas so it smokes when first started but it soon clears.

Over all I do really like this one and I am in two minds whether to sell my bike now as is and get this car. (mainly cos of the cheap insurance) but would like opinions please. Could the car be smoking because it has been sat around or is it possible to be something serious?

I cant really go and view before auction as it is not really local.

Hi,

I bought my Cabriolet at auction recently and like you I couldn't go to see it before the end of the auction as it was far away. All I would say is be prepared to find a few problems that weren't mentioned in the listing (I was) and set your price ceiling to allow for the repair of those problems. I've bought a fair few cars off ebay and although I've never had a nightmare experience I've always found issues that the seller neglected to mention - No matter how genuine they came across in an email. Also, you'll probably find that the car isn't as pretty in the flesh as it is in the pics - prepare for this. When was the car last put through an MOT? If it's been sat since xmas I'm guessing it has little or none? Unless you can carry out repairs yourself or know someone who can help on the cheap I'd steer clear of cabs that have engine issues. Save a bit more money if you can, be patient and get a good one that you're really happy with. Good luck

Your best off looking at it first before buying it, I know that can be a pain with distance involved, somethings will be better than you thought and others worse! If its an older one your looking at mk3/4 and early mk5 with the cvh engine it could be the valve stem oil seals that make it smoke on start up, not really a problem as such but will need changing to sort the problem.

Thanks for everyones advice

Iv decided that I am not going to bother with it now. Just going to look out for another that is in better condition with mot/tax.

shame as I did like this one but like you've said, id rather wait and get one im 100% happy with. than to risk finding it is worse than described and wasted money

Thanks again :-)))

What shape you looking for? The best place to find one in good condition is clubs like this as most of the members look after their cars but you will pay top money for it. If you are looking for a bargin and dont mind doing a little work then try places like gumtree and ebay but it can weeks and weeks of looking every couple of hours to find a good bargin. The cab does not reach the prices the tin tops do which is a shame as i think they are better (good for us though when buying).

I did find a stunning mk5 a few months back, it was mint with fsh and went for £600 on ebay.
