Hi guys....

After trawling the forums back as far as 2009, i cannot find an exact match for my issue and the more i trawl the more i get confused.

Here goes

EFI Cabriolet H reg Starts great, first time, lasts for 5 seconds presuming when chokes on then runs a little lumpy. No affect on top end capable of a steady 80 and still pulls.

Heres the but.. it does run lumpy at certain revs approx 1200 and again at 2800, and is the same if your in any gear. Similar to another post i saw it seems to be at set speeds like 30mph 50mph and 70mph.

I have replaced the air filter and have checked the air pipes etc for splits

i have replaced Plugs leads and coil

I have replaced fuel filter too, as was original incase it was that.

Carried out oil change and also checked all breather pipes as have separate issue with airbox blowing oil (seen the answer and will revert to 10w50 as suggested in other post

One thing i did notice is if i remove the cap blocking the pipe to the carb (the one that sucks air in on left handside) it seems to rev higher and run less lumpy. I saw in another post that there seems to be 3 versions of how the pipes are for the air system? how do i know what its correct for what i have as i dont have V2 or 3?? And removed the little filter thing in between on the left handside and it still made no difference? Could it be the sensor it goes into on the bulkhead?

Reluctant to take it to a garage as its possibly the open cheque book thing as they would have to recheck what i have done to confirm what i already know... Its a Ford

Sorry for my lack of correct terms for the parts will post pics tomorrow if it doesnt make sense

TIA

Jon

I cleaned that earlier today, mines on top of the air box and made a slight difference as the idle went from 1000 to 900, but still running as lumpy. Its weird it tends to fluff a little when idling and then not like doing the speed limit lol but more than capable of doing over the affected speeds, just doesnt like sitting at 30mph @2500rpm or 50 at 2500rpm (rough rpm )

I have also removed the battery and tried to redo the memory as per the Haynes manual, doing the warm the car up, rev to 1200 and hold for 3mins. During this it did seem to do something but cannot be sure. I have it booked in for a test on Tuesday but desperately trying to save the £50 they want to run it on it, to devote it to something else like shopping..

Well after a £50 visit to a local Garage who happens to be a very keen enthusiast, i have had a test carried out to find no major faults with the car...

But the Co2 was set wrong and also in major need of a bit of tlc with settings. He does reckon that i have a dodgy valve stem seal, which is causing the misfire. Will be investigating this at some point soon.

One serious point he has raised is that i appear to have an incorrect air system fitted for the cars year and that i have two idle control valves hence the poor running.

Does anyone here have a picture of a proper untampered with system for my car? He mentioned that the ICVS should be mounted on the wing?? where as mines on top of the airbox?

Can anyone shed some light on this please

Jon
