Guest Squishy1980
Hi everyone. My 1990 1.6 EfI has a few problems at the moment. I was wondering if anyone could suggest a few fixes before I decide to take it to a garage. The rev counter seems to read twice what it should be. The temp gauge reads to the "m" on norm as soon as the ignition is switched on and stays there. I haven't really driven the car very far at the moment as I'm not sure how reliable it's going to be. The heater fan works on all setting but I get no heat. I've only driven it for about 10 minutes each time, driving between 30, 40 and 60 mph. I live in an island so there's very little around town driving. Should I be getting heat from the heater or do these old cars take long to warm up? When starting from cold the whole car judders until its been driven for a few minutes. When I say judders it sort of when applying the throttle and taking your foot off. If you keep you foot at the same position it doesn't really do it. Any help would be great.
mickyfin32
no heat from heater hmm cant remember if they say thats a sign of a head gasket problem is it wet around the passenger footwell
maido
possibly headgasket causing no heat etc.. and as for clocks it might have mfi clocks in which wont give a correct reading i learnt this with the clocks i had in my cabby
Guest Squishy1980
There's no signs of head gasket failer yet. Oil is ok ( could do with a change though ), the coolant seems okay as well. I was wondering if it could be the heater matrix that's blocked? Is there any way of checking this? The passenger footwell is damp but only when it rains. I think the water is getting in just above the speaker. I'll take the trim off an have a better look at some point. I found out yesterday that one of the HT leads is not correct for the car. It's for a Nissan. One end has started to corrode so I've cleaned it up for now and ordered a new set. Also the fuel filter looks like it might have never been changed! A new one has been ordered up as well. The clocks have got white Lockwood faces on so I'm guessing you may be correct about the wrong clocks been fitted. I'll have to see about getting replacement ones.

Guest Squishy1980
I've already checked the pipes. They are connected. The funny thing is that when the engine is running and up to temperature the pipes to the bulkhead are warm, yet still very little heat from the matrix. I've also found ou that the air only gets blown at your feet and dashboard vents, regardless of the position on the dial. Any ideas how to sort this out?
