Hi guys, I'm new here, I have a white 1989 mk4 cabby, had her 9 yrs now full rs kit bonnet bumper etc recaros, lowered 60mm on 17"s that's about all really, gave her a full re paint in a strait including all shuts and new roof about 4yrs ago and she's only done about 2000 miles since, I have a silver top 2.0 Zetec removed from my old mondeo, I also have a set of bike carbs which I'm sending to Bogg brothers for a manifold and set up, I have the eddis management to get her up and running, my questions are, can I use a focus st 170 6 speed box with it and if so what clutch and flywheel combo will I need, also what other parts will I need ie engine mounts altinater, water pump (think there an issue also) sump or anything else I might not know about, hope you guys can help as I'm wanting to start on this as from next week.

hi mate i'm not sure on the gearbox but if you have the 2.0ltr zetec you will need to change the sump and strainer for an escort one and also the water pump as they run in the opposite direction you will need to modify the engine mount and use the origanal alternator mount from the cvh i have the rs turbo gearbox on with the lsd i i had to change the flywheel and clutch both to the escort one from a zetec it just makes things easy with the gearbox mountings and drive shafts etc etc.

if you need any more info just give me a shout.

The flywheel and clutch is easy just use the st170 flywheel and clutch.

Your biggest problem is getting the gearbox mounted. It requires chassis work to fabricate clearance and a new mounting position. Firms charge around £800 for that part of the work.

Next problem is your going to have to convert the gearstick to a cable operated arrangment. Do able but again your going to have to strip the interior so access is there to weld and fabricate potensially using parts from a focus.

I've heard the gearbox casing is larger so will foul on the left hand chassis leg. This will need a section removing / forming to go around the new gearbox. The mount itself is also in a different position to the ib5. So you'll need to form this in the right place. Your best offering the gearbox up removing the section of rail. Then offer it up to see where the new mount needs to be. Once you have that sussed it just a case of welding it all up.

The gearstick setup just need form as per focus so i'd remove a section of metal with everything on from a focus and then offer it up to the escort and cut / weld as required
