As some may know a daft old women in a new mini cooper s convertible yesterday decided that she did not like the front of my xr3i so reversed into it.

With wing damage, front panel damage a new bumper and headlamp quoted for i fear that the insurance will write the car off as the cost for work is over £700. My question is if they write it off as a cat c and i buy it back and repair it myself, will my insurance rise??

Thanks alot.

P.S the car is insured on classic insurance

When a claim has gone in even if it wasn't ur fault they still wanna know .

my van was written off someone went in back of me its still needs to be disclosed & it went up

" IF " you get the chance to buy it back that is BUT once repaired you can tax it at the post office only until it has been been for a dvla vic check.as it hasn't chnged hands. same keeper.

If you dont get the check done you can still drive n tax it n mot it but if you sell it on the new keeper will not get a log book they will have to get a vic check done. And i would guess you would get a knock on the door off the new owner.

have a look on line n note any cars same age value etc this may help swing it in ur favour like i have just had to do with the fire at the bodyshop my project was at they wantes 3 prices of over £1500 found 1 the same car colour age spec £1795 then another 2 at £1900 n £2195. print them off or list the links so they can find them.

good luck mate

If it is on a classic policy then the chances are that you have an agreed value in place as well. If so, you can get it repaired up to that value, minus any excess (not applicable in this case).

You also need to remember that some insurance companies will not cover a vehicle which has been previously written off, plus the vehicle will only be worth trade money from that point as well, unless agreed with an insurance underwriter upon policy inception.
