Yeah.... he seems to know what he's doing. I understand that he's based in NEW MILTON ,in Hampshire, just outside Bournmouth.

He tells me that he buys the roofs, made up from "The Car Hood Warehouse" in Chessington, ..so they are all produced in "STAYFAST" mohair.

I would have gone to him myself but I wanted the higher grade of MOHAIR material,... TWILLFAST...which is more like the BMW/Merc, material

and has a some what better life/ wear and reputation. The TWILLFAST. hoods are mainly produced and supplied by BIS International of CROYDON

Sth London also in WALES and SOUTHERN FRANCE and are the hoods usually supplied ("ITHINK"?) by CAR HOODS NORTHERN and other

hood specialists The down side of the TWILLFAST hoods is that they usually command a some what higher price than that of the STAYFAST.

by at least a further £70 to £100..... So you PAYS YOUR MONEY AND MAKES YOUR CHOICE....

very true but he reckons on average vinyl hoods you get 10 years from (not putting them down when hot etc etc) and he reckons double that and more for the basic mohair and it looks as good as a alfa spider hood so im pretty pleased with the budgie version

Agreed 100%..... any of these "MOHAIR" type hoods are far better than the original VYNYL. Although my original VINYL is now 20yrs old and still 90% waterproof...

Since I started delving into the various hood fabrics and cost differential,it does appear that the look , wear, and shape of the final article really depends on how well the new

hood is fitted......and from the feedback that I have obtained from the various forums, ie MG Owners Club etc Garry from New Milton rates fairly high in the field of

hood fitting....... For me... my MK5 has only covered 44000mls ,and is and has been for many years "Laid Up " each winter for the 6mth period in a warm dry garage,

and ,will hopefully be cosseted the same way for years to come by my grandson, hence my desire to go for the slightly upmarket "TWILLFAST" option...which should

last ,with care, for at least another 25 to 30yrs..
