MarineIguana
Right dunno where to start or if I can explain it properly but here goes as I am unable to figure it out When I put my new engine in I fitted a new standard clutch kit as I am not running much above standard power I assume but ever since then before ford fair the clutch slips all the time The flywheel is a new but old one that came with the engine, The cable is fine, the ratchet is fine, everything that controls and has anything to do with the clutch I have checked and I now need a new clutch plate as mine has been ruined by now The pedal is the odd thing as the release bearing is always touching the pressure plate which it shouldn't as far as I know and the biting point is right at the top of the pedal which isn't right also, That means any slight pressure on the pedal makes the clutch move causing more slipping, That's as best as I can describe it hope it makes sense as I have had enough of it makes me not want to drive it if I can be out accelerated by a moped
MarineIguana
Damn on my own with this then lol, New clutch cable has been ordered if not then new clutch kit with higher strength pressure plate then if that don't work, scrap it

Guest Lee81
I'd be checking the ratchet on the clutch pedal. Easy way to see if you have the problem there is to note where the clutch lever on the gearbox is and then remove the cable. If it settles in a different position then the cable or ratchet isn't working right. If it does then you know the gearbox has to be removed to find the problem. There are lots of different bearings listed for the ib5 gearbox and this is especially important if you are using a S1 gearbox as this orginally had a smaller clutch than the later S2 rs turbo. Also make sure the clutch isn't contaminated with oil etc from a leaking seal.

Guest corrie
sounds like you have put the plate the wrong way round but also splines should never be greased up as it will fly straight onto the clutch. the splines should have just been cleaned and checked to make sure it slides freely if it was sticking then the input shaft is worn. but from experience i would say you have put the clutch plate on incorrect as per what you have explained. so yes its going to need a new plate as you have now driven it and it has bent the plate. so i advise you not to drive it anymore to prevent further damage to pedal boxes and fly wheel and so on.
