I was indeed. I get dis-heartened with it. Then as soon as someone was coming to buy him I change my mind ( a woman's prerogative you know ). Now he's almost fixed.. In for his MOT on thursday. Then it's play time.. Hehehe.

Guest gavintwopies
There is a few options to get round this as i used to suffer badly with this on my old 1.4l as well as my rs turbo you can either heat wrap the down pipe or on the rs turbos there was a heat shield that was put on from std that would clip on to the down pipe to keep the heat off the back of the starter also. Heat wrap is probably the cheapest and easiest aswell as the more widly available option i'd say? Also try and clean the contacts up on the starter motor as every little helps as all your trying to combat is high resistance problems Edited May 10, 2011 by gavintwopies
Guest Alanman
It might only be a short term fix but to free the starter a little take it off and clean it out with WD40. You'll notice a difference when it goes back on.
Guest suffolk04
Heard a few years ago that a diesel starter could be used, but dont know how true it is

Chris
1.8 Zetec starters fit and work better as its shorter so it avoids the manifold and a huge battery.. the bigger amp the more clout the starters gonna get when it turns over
